My mother-in-law purchased this for our 2 1/2 year old for Christmas. He absolutely LOVES it. It's been almost a year later and he plays with it at least once a day. It has really helped him get to know his letters and sounds. He liked it so much, we purchased one for my newphew for his 3rd birthday. He likes it just as much and they play with their computers together on a regular basis. Very durable, has been dropped many times. Have used it consistenly for almost a year and have never had to add new batteries. One of the nicest features...it shuts off by itself if not played with for awhile. Helps to save the batteries!

I've been wanting to buy this for a while for my 3 year old boy but decided to wait until christmas, until I was able to find an used Leapster for half the price on craighslist. The system that I have is the old version but it still plays the same games as this version, also it comes with more integrated games. I am very please with this system, some of the games that comes with it are hard for my 3 year old so I need to help him along. He really enjoys playing with this. Great system for the price. Extra games are a little pricey though, $20-$25 each.
I gave this game to my daughter for her 4th birthday and she loves it. It is one of her favorite leapster games--and she has a lot of them. It holds her attention and is a great educational tool. I would highly recommend this one.

Both my older kids have a Leapster. I paid much more for ours. This is a GREAT deal. Your child will play with this for HOURS at a time and LEARN while they are playing.

My daughter received this for her third birthday. She loves this game, and requests to play it with us fairly often. I thought of a way to change the game when she gets a bit older and begins to learn to read. When you slide the red box to reveal the tiles, you can slide it slowly so that it just reveals the words and not the pictures - so we could reveal only the words and challenge her to see if she can match the words to her Zingo card. The game has been wonderful for teaching her sportsmanship because if we beat her to a tile, she has to learn to wait until that tile shows up again. If she gets the tile first, she says, "Don't worry, Mommy, you'll get it next time!"

my then 3 year old son got this from santa for christmas. i was sceptical, for the price i didn't expect much. but, i did want my son to have his own lap top so he'd leave mine alone :) i figured for the price we'd try it out. he loved it instantly, as did my then 1 year old. she is now 2, and he is 4, and they still love it. my 2 year old knows all her letters, as does my 4 year old. my son shows ME how to play the games. they are simple, but completely age appropriate. the sounds do get annoying, and the graphics are circa 1984, but i wouldn't really expect more for $21. it's also super durable. both children have repeatedly thrown, dropped and stood on it, and you can't tell at all. my only complaints are that the mouse comes off too ... My son absolutely loves this game! He runs up to me every few minutes and asks me about different facts he learned, such as: "Mommy, did you know that glass can be recycled over and over again forever?!"
Our family recycles and while our son has gone along with it, he is now getting the "big picture." At the end of a game, it gives different facts about recycling and the environment. Some of the other facts include how long it takes for different objects to decompose in a land fill. Now it's my son asking ME what else we can recycle!
This game was well worth the money in my opinion!

My daughter enjoys playing with this toy. She laughs every time she sees herself in the mirror and she loves banging on the buttons, which are super-big. The buttons cause little people to pop up, and she loves trying to catch them before they fall. Also, the wide spread of the toy's legs make it sturdy enough that she can pull herself up without making me afraid that it will fall over on her. The music is a bit cheesy, and the microphone doesn't seem to have a purpose (it's more like a rattle), but overall it's an enjoyable toy.

There was an article about this toy before it came out in Wired Magazine. It basically interviewed the inventor and peaked my curiosity. So I purchased it. It is an impressive device by any modern day standards. Basically it's a camera that recognizes words and images on specialized paper (the limited series of books that you purchase). Once recognized it plays sound bites or reads the word(s) on the page that you are passing the pen over. It's smartly designed and a child quickly understands how to operate it.
At first it's a game and your child will just want to click on everything to hear the sound bites. As time goes by they start exploring the less than obvious features like read back and games. Before you know it you have a totally ... Read More:
My family has the version 1 catchphrase and I honestly think we have memorized most of the answers. It would have been nice to have a way to just update the questions but this is the next best thing. All new questions and loads of fun. Playing with teenagers is a absolute riot, they have no idea about some of this stuff and you should see the hints. Hope you enjoy this game as much as we have.
