Paint Shop Pro Photo X2

Very disappointed in this software. When I open the software and use it, then close it down I have to reboot my computer to get it to come back up. This is a hassle. I have and use Paint shop pro x and it works great. Would not recommmend this as an upgrade.

For the money I paid, there is nothing I can ask for. Has 12 games every thing plays very well. Perfect for young boys. Very simple old school 16 bit games. Graphics is surprisingly very good.

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Special Media Edition Upgrade

I updated to Microsoft Office 2008 from M.O. 2004 because I purchased a new, Intel-based, Leopard-running, 2.6 GHz MacBook Pro and thought M.O. 2008 would be faster than what I had. The software has all the features of the 2004 version plus a few features I'll probably not use but I was disappointed by the amount of time it takes for the various programs to load. For instance, from the time I click on the Word icon in the dock until a blank document opens takes about 13 seconds. Word 2004 on my 1 Ghz Titanium G4 PowerBook only took about 5 seconds.

Other than that, I like the fact that the applications work very much like the previous versions so there is very little required learning curve.

The Witcher Enhanced

For those unaware, the Witcher "Enhanced Edition," is probably the best computer RPG to come out since the 1990's. It's a tremendously long game, with with a great plot and a fairly witty protagonist. So many other reviewers have already stated so much truth about how good this game is, that I won't parrot their reviews any further.

One derogatory item for the kiddies and the uptight. Note the MA17 rating. Part of the hero's personality is that he's an unrepentant ladies man. As such, throughout the game, you can bed various women and get treated to a fairly artful nude of them. If that bothers you, now you've been warned. Though you try hard, I suppose you could avoid all the sex through dialogue choices.

Crysis Warhead

While the game may boast some great technical marvels, the draconian DRM (copy protection) prevents the game from being installed in many cases. The support in this situation is exactly none. A visit to EA's website reveals an unfriendly interface that yields nothing of value. You are basically left to your own devices to figure out the problems - which are many. The installer often fails meaning you have to revert to some very esoteric ways to get the product installed. You are then rewarded with the activation attempt, only to find it fails, too, and proceeds to delete the binary (main program) which prevents any more attempts unless you de-install and re-install. That process will take about 30-40 minutes per attempt. Wow, what fun!

Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 Ultimate

I uses Photoshop CS 2 before and while this is a phantastic software for editing pictures, it was really shooting birds with canons.
The most pictures I make these days fall in the category of family snapshots, with the occasional landscape and some other documentary photos.
So I was looking for a more simple solution with more automation / with three kids, you just don't have the time anymore to individually tweak every photo to the max in PS. And with my wife discovering the joy of taking pictures of our kids, the picture count for this year is slightly below 3000.
X2 Ultimate has everything that I need - a quick fix button for my wife, a somewhat more elaborate but still simple tweaking capability for me and if I really need it, it also has basically the same ... Read More:

Logitech G9 Laser Mouse

Here is my mini review of high end mice I've tried recently.

Ideazon Reaper Edge Gaming Mouse - 3200 DPI (3200 DPI, 6 buttons): It's a decent mouse except for the side buttons. The bottom side button is under a nub that is a bit annoying to reach in the middle of a first person shooter fight. The top side button is a little nicer to reach and decent to use for knocking zombies off yourself in L4D. The wheel is annoying since sometimes as you scroll it seems to click without putting much pressure on it (which is annoying if you have something bound to MOUSE3 and you just wanted to scroll the mouse wheel). Also, it would have been nice to have two DPI buttons instead of the one (easier to "go to sniper mode"/"go to regular mode"). Currently the DPI button toggles between ... Read More:

CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB ( 200-615 )

The title says it all. It worked on my laptop and Homesystem with FlightGear, out of the box. Running Fedora 9 on both systems. Like many others, I had to cut a spacer to get the mounting clamps to work. I haven't had any reason to curse the Yoke, just my skill at flying. No dead zone that I can find, the springs ping from time to time. Glad I bought it.

Saitek Pro Flight Yoke with Three-Lever Throttle (PZ44)

I bought this product initially with hesitation because of all of the problems people seemed to have with it. The key to installation is to not use the drivers on the CD it comes with. Also go to the forums that tell you how to delete certain registry entries that give you a clean slate on your yoke and button assignments. After clearing your assignments on FS9 and/or FSX like I have, you go in and set the assignments anew for your yoke and throttle assembly. Then you won't get the gear down and view change anomalies. I use the CH pedals without any problems along with the Saitek stuff. When those quit working though I will switch to the the Saitek pedals.
