Although I enjoyed the film on a very basic, escapist level, the cynical American nationalism on show was quite replellent. As the film bowls along we are given endless panoramic views of American landmarks, cities, and - what a shock - an aircraft carrier brimming over with fighter planes. The theme throughout appears to be "Gee, aint the good ole USA amazing!" with a flimsy adventure almost tacked on. Also, in the company of Harvey Keitel and Sean Bean (what were they thinking?) Nicolas Cage proves once again that he can't act; I suppose that's what nepotism is all about - if Uncle Francis Ford Coppola couldn't give his nephew a hand up, who could? He did it with his daughter in Godfather 3, after all. Oh, and the villains are the Brits ... Read More:

Seems to be a lot of negative reviews for this film which I find rather annoying. Hey this film is fast, fun and full of great ideas that are well realised. I think the fact the story and ideas are so good is why people are so critical i.e. They think it could have been so much better. I thought it Rocked and the SE's are really good.
I'm sure the negative reviews will continue for this movie just as the positive reviews continue for "Serenity" which truly is complete rubbish (I own it). Am I saying that some of the reviews are bogus for this movie? Hey watch "Jumper" and then make your own mind up!

I Am Legend has a few good points but loads of bad ones.
The acting is terrific, Will Smith is very talented. The storyline is very good too but it's just a shame they didn't manage to pull it off the way I thought they would.
It was the zombies that really dissapointed me. Once they came out, it turned into some action-horror, making me forget how calm it was before-hand. I know that was the storyline but couldn't they reveal to us what the zombies looked like at in the ending? That way, I'd be a little more intrested of finding out what happened in the end.
I think the nobleness of Will Smith's character ruined the ending. It would have been so much better if he got out of his house along with the woman and her child.
I thought ... Read More:
the script is APPALLING - we are spoonfed, almost literally, every action or plot-turn. subtlety is out-the-window. also, the script has been totally stripped of everything that makes it relevant or even interesting. for example, the religious allusions are non-existent. what is leftover is bland, neutral, insipid, meaningless and ultimately boring. the action scenes were action-filled but over too quickly and ultimately who cares!
what is okay about this film:
the acting is about as good as it CAN be with a script this inept. the music score, while being play-by-numbers, is effective enough, although i can't recall a single motif worth remembering once the film has finished.

Could this be an utterly soul-less movie for the sake of producing a trilogy? If so, I hope it's the end for this franchise.
Rachel Weisz's creation of Evie is completely destroyed in the hands of ham-actress Maria Bello, who transforms the feisty but principled wife into a greedy action heroine more suited to a Terminator movie.
The script and plot are laughable - there isn't a scrap of tension or excitement. The finale is all too contrived and rushed, to the point you ask yourself "is that it?"

Be warned this film is hardly anything like the Spiderwick Chronicles books. My son and I have read all the Spiderwick Chronicles and we found this screen adaptation very disappointing. Where's the dwarves, elves, dragons , the palace of trash and the incident at the school where Jared first meets Mulgarath ? It seems to me that they tried to make the film as cheap as possible using mostly cgi, hence no dwarves and elves and tried to save money by using ,mainly one set (the house and the estate it's on). We also found the relationships of the characters had been changed. Why? There was nothing wrong with the supportive relationship between Jared, Simon and Mallory that they have in the books which you only see later on in the film.
The film could easily have been ... Read More:

imho, it's the things that other people hated about this film that made me love it:
the acting was believable. i think that i would make a whimpering noise if i suddenly found myself on the ground with a huge monster standing above me.
the dialogue was believable. in real life people generally don't soliloquy like shakespeare, or describe ever innermost emotion, or philosophise or have great one-liners every minute - they usually just talk rubbish, like they do in this film.
the script was believable. it was what you could reasonably expect to happen if a half-kilometer high monster invaded new york.
there IS humour in the film, if you aren't po-faced.
the direction was tight. it moved forward. it did what it ... Read More:

I recently watched this film and I was really impressed by it!
I've seen so many bad reviews about this film and I had doubts about buying it but I did and I'm so glad now!
People have been complaining about the ending on this film. I think it's great, although nothing much happens. There's so many films that end with a massive exploding finale but this one was pretty calm.
If you enjoyed the film then I'd recommend you reading the book which the film was based on by Cormac Mccarthy.
