My little girl has been interested in these types of books from the age of 2 months (she also has a pets one) when she became fascinated by the pictures. She is now 4.5 months and still loves to look at the pictures (with a few sound effects from mum or dad!) or just grab the book and scrunch it up (it makes a crinkly noise) and put it in her mouth! It's very light so she can move it around easily. These kind of books aren't expensive and I reckon they're well worth the money.

My wife and I had our first beautiful baby 5 months ago. By week 5 we were basically doing a "cry on demand" routine for raising our child. Feeding him when he needed to be fed and putting him to bed when we thought he needed to go to bed. At week 5 my wife had to start expressing milk and was in a tremendous amount of pain in the breast area. That together with our baby waking up through the night was making child raising a testing experience if I can use that term. I essentially at that moment took on the role of Mr Mum. We purchased this book a few months earlier on the advice of a friend and hadn't really opened it up. That night I spent about 4 hours reading the book. The next day we started putting our baby into routine following Gina's ... Read More:

I bought this book on the back of 'What To Expect When You Are Expecting' and having borrowed this one from the library first. Both books are excellent, however I pre-ordered the 2008 edition, having read the 2004.
Why not 5 stars? Another review comments on the anglicising of the US law and support references, which is certainly the case in the 2004 edition What to Expect the First Year (What to Expect) but the 2008 edition is the American edition What to Expect the First Year and all the references are to the US system, some of which are completely different to UK, eg in the US the hospital files for your baby's birth certificate, here you register baby yourself. (A fairly obvious difference which is made very clear in hospital if you weren't ... Read More:

We simply refer to this book as 'The Food Bible'. I have used it constantly since starting to wean my daughter. She is now over one and I'm still getting my money's worth out of it. Some of the recipes have become family favourites! Simple, practical recipes which are tasty, what more could you ask. I found I picked about 5 or 6 from each age range and kept cooking batches, adapting to suit what i had in the cupboard, and to my daughters changing tastes. Good practical advice and a great starting point for weaning and cooking for a family.

I was in two minds whether or not to buy this because of all the bad reviews about it being inaccurate, but I thought 'What the heck, I can always send it back'. I'm so glad I took the risk because this little gadget is great! It looks brilliant, giving a lovely soft glow to the nursery and the colours are a great visual indicator of the temperature which save you stumbling around in the dark trying to peer at a non-light up one. On the subject of the thermometer being inaccurate, I have to say it is definately not a problem with my egg as I have compared it to an extreamly accurate thermocouple thermometer and they always read no more than 0.1 of a degree apart. I don't know whether there has been a bad batch of these eggs going out to cause them to give the ... Read More:

I purchased this for use with our baby daughter, who is currently in hospital. It consistently reads low. It tells me that she is below the ranges given in the instructions for her age and the reading location, giving me no confidence it it. It reads 35deg when the hospital thermometers I used to check it tell me she is 37. Two degrees difference is a huge amount on a £40 device and makes me not trust it at all. I plan to return mine.

We bought this for our three-week old when he was two weeks old and he can't get enough of it! He will quite happily lie and stare at the bold, bright images for ages.

If you had asked me to rate this book when my first son was a year old, they would have had to invent a new system. It was easily an eleven out of ten. He thrived on it, it worked, we all loved it.
Then my daughter came in to the world with a very different view of things and suddenly, my tried and tested E.A.S.Y. arsenal was laid to waste. She didnt sleep, she ate all the time, she cried and cried....where the pages telling you waht to do when you were so fatigued and cross with your newborn that you feared what you might do!?!
We were following the guidelines - we were doing the stuff - she just didnt like it, and I had neglected to take her opinions in to account!
In the end, I relaxed and gave myself a break - which is actually ... Read More:

After reading the reviews, I decided to purchase this CD as I have been trying to encourage my 2 month old into a loose bedtime/nap winding down 'routine'. He would previously fight sleep screaming until eventually falling asleep in our arms, never falling asleep on his own. After only a few days, he now sends himself off to sleep with virtually no fuss and often by the middle of the second track! The vocals are enchanting and beautiful, and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing CD for sending their little ones to sleep.

If you love reading to your child, do not miss this book.
It is a delightful, humourous,dream-like surreal book, with a repetitive, poetic, chanting story.
It is (deservedly) a children's classic. Many reviewers here have tried to break down the different elements of this book.
What I would like to convey is the whole experience of reading the book which teaches a simple life experience to a child - which is highly spiritual, particularly the last pages where a riot of colour is the world through the eyes of a butterfly.
The story has optimism and beauty at its very core.
It has limitless opportunities for teaching and conversation. There is a colouring book of the fantastic illustrations which can be bought ... Read More:
