FIFA 08 (PS2)

It simply isn't. Even though it's meant to be.

The crossing is so awful that none of the players even seem to know what the box is, they'd rather smash someone's face in when they're sitting innocently in the stand. The shooting is frequently off target. I find I'm actually more acurate shooting outside of the box than inside of it. It just seems, poor, comapred to it's PES counterpart. It appears harder to actually play...and that;s only when you can get it to play.

I have it in my collection. But It'll never let me play it. In fact, I've played one game in an hour and a half today. Officially the crashes are winning 4-1, because in that hour and a half I've had to turn the damned computer off FOUR times. Great for ... Read More:

Football Manager 2008 (PC/Mac)

This is agonizingly close to being a fantastic game, but unfortunately contains enough irritations to make it (for me) unplayable.

Minor annoyances within the game aside, it's the match engine that's at fault. If they could sort out the following, all would be well:

1. The human player is unable to instruct the goalkeeper to distribute the ball to defenders, thus building from the back and retaining possession. Tick boxes exist for this, but they don't work. On the game company's website, pretend experts on message boards advise how to get your keeper to do this, but their advice doesn't work and even if it did it would invalidate most tactical setups (anything without an ultra-deep defensive line). The Simpsons (PS2)

I only have one complaint about The Simpsons Game, the graphics, they are absolutely appauling. This is the reason I gave it 3 stars, but apart from that, this is a really good game, just be warned about the graphics.

Need for Speed: ProStreet (PS2)

If you love the Need for Speed series then you'll love this game. Wait, did I say love. I meant HATE!!

Need for Speed has always been my choice for driving games. With the release of NFS underground you had the bonus of designing cars aswel as driving them. This was bettered in the follow up; NFS underground 2. The next NFS release was NFS Most Wanted. And How AMAZING was that? I loved it. Then NFS Carbon was released, also a great game...

then what went wrong?! I'm not going to bore you with the detailed ins and outs of this game (although its worth mentioning the level set up is rubbish and its all track based - rather than street based), but I will some up by saying...

Rugby 08 (PS2)

Like another reviewer that can't get this to run on their quad core machine, I cannot get this to run on a Nvidia SLI based machine.
I have spent hours going through the EA helpdesks suggestions to get this to work, but basically it hasn't been tested on SLI and just crashes on start-up.

Bottom line, if you have a high spec machine that Rugby 08 should look wonderful on, you won't even see the splash screen.

Sony Official PlayStation 2 DualShock 2 Controller (PS2)

I've tried other controllers for the PS2, and in the end there is no other controller quite like the Dualshock 2. The buttons on other controllers often require quite a conscious effort to use them, but the Dualshock 2's analogue buttons are actually analogue - press lightly and you'll get one response, press a little harder and you'll get another, and so on. The Dualshock 2 seems to last as long as any other controller and is simply better quality, so there's no real competition there.

As for the usefulness of a Dualshock 2 now that the PS3 is out - the Sixaxis controller bundled with the PS3 doesn't have rumble functionality, and a Dualshock 3 with rumble and Sixaxis tilt sensors will currently set you back quite a bit compared to a Dualshock 2 (which has ... Read More:

Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline Console (Black)

I'm a true hardcore gamer, and this has a couple of great and unforgettable exclusive titles:
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2
Spyro: A Hero's Tail

Try and grab that lot if you want this console. And at such as a cheap price, missing out is unforgivable.

Official Sony PlayStation 2 Memory Card (PS2)

Ok so I HAVE had my PS2 memory card for a while now, but it has now started to act up.
A few months ago it lost all my Guitar Hero 3 data, so i had to do it again!! (not a huge problem as i love the game!) But seemed to work afterwards, thinking it was just a glitch i carried on using it but now it has failed again on GH3 and other games aswell.
I will be getting a replacement Sony card as they do last well and are better than other cards for the PS2 but be warned they can fail. (thats not to say they will though) :)

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (PS2)

The price pretty much sums it up. This is a fairly solid incarnation of the series bearing in mind most of Konami's efforts are going into the Next-Gen versions.

The 'Become a Legend' mode is a nice idea but (as anyone who's played as 'fixed' on the old PESs while the comp controls the rest of the team)has very slow gameplay and frustrating as the AI doesn't learn how you like to play and often does irritating things like giving the ball away cheaply from a pass and wandering into opposition players with the ball at their feet.

Ultimately though if you want a footy game for when the boys (or girls) come round and don't want to/can't fork out for an Xbox 360 or PS3 then this is more than adequate and capable of filling hours with multiplayer fun.
