Olympus CS 113 - Case for digital voice recorder

A stylish little cover - but once on you can't get to the power button (on/off switch) so you have to keep taking it off (by first removing the stereo speaker attachment) in order to start the machine and throughout its use unless you leave it on standby. Major design flaw.

I bought this because my Olympus was not recording well with its built in mic. With the external mic the recording improved over 50%.

Olympus TP-7 Multi Purpose Adapter

This nifty gadget allows you to record any phone conversations - landlines and mobiles - without complications, and with excellent sound quality. I have used mine in combination with a WS-40 digital recorder for the past year and it is fantastic for phone interviews. I rave about it so often that two colleagues have purchased it based on my recommendation.

This product is a very expensive waste of time. I followed the set-up instructions and tried to use the software to read into type a long hand written document. This was a waste of time, it did enter the document but with so many mistakes that it took longer to correct that it would have taken to type. I used the 'correction' by which it is supposed to 'learn' new words - again utterly useless. I have corrected a name 10 times and it refuses to recognise it, making the same mistake over and over again. This product is far too expensive not to work as advertised.

Sony ECM-Z60 Table Top Zoom Microphone

Despite the other reviewers review here, my experience with this microphone is far from good. Yes the zoom function works okay- not great, but okay. It's a cheap mic so that gains the Z60 another star, but that's where I stop.

I recently used this mic to record a series of lectures, but because of the cheap lightweight plastic build of the unit, I could never get it to stand on its own built in feet. The unit kept rolling over and what's worse is that because of its design, the casing picks up so much surface noise- which rumbles like mad in the recording, it rendered the final results almost unlistenable. So in the end I had to leave it pointing in the wrong direction. Not good. It's also highly sensitive to moving air, so forget using ... Read More:

Although I did have some minor problems installing this product with a little bit of research I managed to resolve it.

This programme is highly capable and highly useful. It might take a little bit of getting used to as in the way you talk to it and it needing a limited amount of training. But the end result is surprisingly accurate. I am very impressed.

The biggest problem that I have is remembering to use the software as I tend to automatically go to the keyboard to type.

The other great aspect of this software is that you can use it anywhere that you would normally type. So in effect if you wanted you could almost never have to type another word again.

About two weeks ago I was asked to write a book on certain aspects of gambling law which will require me, over the next three months, to write approximately 200,000 words. I'm quite a fast typer, but for the quotation of various passages from statute or other reference works it is always quite a slow process to copy type. I had toyed with speech recognition software in the past (reading about it but never quite having the nerve to try it out).
