Undisputed leader of the home videogame market was Atari's truly revolutionary 2600 console. In fact, the pixellated magic produced by this teak-effect box of jiggery-pokery helped Atari shift over 30 million units and the 2600 (or VCS) is now universally regarded as the godfather of home consoles. Even today, videogame aficionados fondly remember that primitive, thumb-numbing Atari joystick with blister-tinged affection. Which is just as well, because ingenious boffins have now managed to cram 10 classic Atari games into an officially licensed replica Atari joystick!
The 10-in-1 really puts the "joy" in joystick, and you'll be unable to put it down, even when it's not plugged in. In fact, position it next to your PS2/Xbox/GameCube ... Read More:

I remember how popular Street Fighter was when I was a kid. I had to have a joint Birthday and Christmas present one year just so my parents could afford to get me a Super NES with Street Fighter 2 Turbo included!!
The Special Championship Edition was only released for the Sega Megadrive and is a combination of the original Championship Edition and the Hyper/Turbo editions. It is every bit as good as the arcade and has the added advantage that you can vary the speed between original sluggish and really fast.
The controller is excellent too and is a reproduction of the 6-button Megadrive controller that was brought out specifically for playing SF2. I actually prefer this one as it weighs less and the D-pad has a "loose" ... Read More:

I loved Commodore computers when I was younger and this book is an enjoyable insight into the key people and events in the history of this overlooked company.
That said, I didn't like the way it was written - largely a collection of short, disjointed facts with no real flow and often out of chronological order at inappropriate times.
Worth a punt if you've ever eaten your tea while Manic Miner loads.

I think roughly 70% of my waking hours while not at school were spent in the company of my Mega Drive during the early 90s, so this handheld device is one of the more exciting discoveries of the year! I managed to get one from a high street retailer a few weeks ago and thought I'd share my thoughts here.
GAME SELECTION
While it certainly isn't the most ideal selection (Streets of Rage, Sonic 3 and Eternal Champions would have made it perfect), for the price it has an excellent choice of games. Sonic and Knuckles is obviously the highlight and remains as brilliant now as it was when it arrived 14 years ago and the other notable gems are Kid Chameleon, Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Columns 3 (although the original would have been better) and ... I bought a couple of these so that i could play the mighty Kick Off 2 on a PC using an Amiga emulator. They were easy to setup and i was playing within minutes.
The build quality on the outside is that of the vintage Competition Pro joysticks; which is awesome.
There are two negative points though. Those being the main two buttons and the responsiveness of the shaft.
The buttons: if you don't press the button in the exact centre it doesn't always depress the microswitch and then has a chance of getting wedged in.
The shaft: the original Comp. Pro sticks used a rubber bush type thing to recentre the shaft and this was good. This joystick uses a spring and it doesn't work as well as the shaft feels loose and has a tendency to ... Read More:
