Bear & Penguin's Big Maths Adventure

My Son absolutely loved this programme - and the Big Reading adventure. Once patches were downloaded it worked great.... on our old computer. Now we have a new system with Windows Vista is doesn't work. On the GSP support website the only advice was 'this product doesn't work on Vista'. Slightly disappointing to say the least - you'd have thought this wouldn't have been the case. Unless anyone knows of a workaround they'd like to share, I am afraid I cannot recommend this software.

I loved letterland and so did my daughter and I taught her the letters using their reading cards and CD (both of which I highly recommed). However, now that my daughter has started Reception I was looking for something else to stimulate her writing as well as her reading, which is coming along very nicely. After reading such positive comments on this Jolly Phonics product, I bought it and it just so happens that it is the same method they are using at her school to teach them the letter. She loves it as she recognises it all. A good way to complement at home, what she's learning at school. Read at Home: Flashcards Wordgames

I feel this pack doesn't contain enough nouns or adjectives to really make any useful sentences. There are lots of pronouns but nothing to use them with. For example you can start to make a sentence such as "We went to the..." but then there are no nouns such as "park" or "zoo" to finish the sentence. Possibly useful if you combine them with another set of cards but otherwise limiting.

Stick Man

I felt compelled to review this book because my 4 year old boy loves it so much. Since we discovered "Room on the Broom" 5 years ago with our daughter we have always read and loved JD/AS books in our house. "Snail and the Whale" being another favourite. I can't explain why he loves this book so much (other than the catchy repetitive text and typically beautiful and descriptive pictures)but he insists on having it read to him every night and then reads it himself (well- tries to) and brings it in our room first thing in the morning to be read again! DEEP JOY....

In the Night Garden (Little Library): Little Library (In the Night Garden)

I bought these for my two year old who is a recent In The Night Garden fan. They are fantastic. Admittedly the box arrived a bit worse for wear (I am in Australia) but it still holds the books when it needs to. My daughter carries the books everywhere. Stops, sits down to read them, waves them around in one hand, lines them up to count to 6 or turns them over to complete the puzzle on the back. For a few dollars she has had hours of fun already. Highly recommend!

Crayola Beginnings 24 Jumbo Crayons

Don't bother buying this item! I just did, and, instead of 24 crayons in a nice round container as pictured, I received (very late) three cardboard packets of crayons. Not a nice present for a two-year-old.

Crayola Gigantic Colouring Book

This is a really good colouring book, lots of simple pictures to colour in. However this book is not gigantic in size, I think they mean gigantic in the number of pages. Its a normal A4 size book. But well worth the money.

The Phonics Handbook: A Handbook for Teaching Reading, Writing and Spelling (Jolly Phonics)

I bought this book to help my struggling son with his phonics. He is in an independant learning group for support, so this was for me to help him at home and I'm glad I spent the money on it as it has helped no end.

There are lots of pages at the back for you to copy and give your child to do. There are lots of helpful hints and tips to encourage and help your child.
