Iv'e owned one of these for almost 4 years now and until recently was able to play reasonably high end games on it, e.g UT 2004@1280x800 on high settings and COD2@1024x768 on medium.
For around £20 this really isn't all that bad and worth a look if your upgrading an older Xp machine which simply cannot take advantatage of more powerful GPU's. A good all rounder and definately much better than most shared solutions and for an older machine e.g 4-5 years old this is a must.

I read a few reviews for this product on the web before I bought it. Just goes to show there's not substitute for testing a product yourself before buying.
I'll be brief:
Sound quality is pretty poor and lifeless. Dont think I've heard worse in a long while. I have an old pair of Sennheiser cordless headphones that are miles better.....
With nothing playing theres a very audiable background hiss, even with the volume on low. Didnt expect this and am really disapointed.
The volume control box is shoddy, theres no indicator on the master volume which direction you're turning it, far to easy to harm your ears with this, also I found it very easy to turn the master knob inadvertently.

My friend bought one of these and it does its job as a sound card, it makes sound heh, but apart from that it isnt any better than the onboard audio solutions of today (which are actually very good, onboard sound no longer sucks like it did 5 years ago) and in actuality this isnt an x-fi card. This card has the same chip that the old audigy SE had, the audigy SE was a value card back in the day so it wasent top of the line then and is even further from it now. Creatives line over the past 10 or so years has gone from soundblaster live! --> audigy 1 --> audigy 2 --> x-fi just to give you an idea of how old the tech on this card actually is.

The £30 this card costs could be better spent elsewhere (or not at all if you have a newer onboard ... Read More:

When I brought a 5.1 Sound System to link to my PC, stupid me forgot to get a sound card for it to work, so after a quick trip to PCWorld, This is what i came out with, This is Farley priced compared to its alternatives, i brought this as although I'm using it with a 5.1 sound system, it will go up to 7.1 in case I upgrade the speakers again in the future, This is a good PCI Card although i did have to mess around with the settings to get sound out of all 5 speakers when playing music, but no major problems so i would happily recommend this if someone asked for a SoundBlaster Sound Card on a Budget.

I bought this with my logitech z2300's, thinking it would improve the clarity of the speakers.

Firstly, the speakers are great, but I plugged in the x-thingy, and it destroyed the treble speakers. It started making that sound you get if the cones are damaged.

I thought that the system was broken, but unplugged the x-thing, and the speakers sounded normal. Plugged the x-thing in again, and the speakers went back to sounding broken.

I don't know if this is because I've set it up wrong, but it seems to be set up correctly. Plus, you don't notice that much of an improvement.

I'm sending it back. There's no point to be honest, the z2300's are a perfect speaker set-up anyway, and this just seems to ruin it.
