Just a comment to Tom's review about the unit overheating.
It has 2.5V applied to the barrel of the headphone socket to supported powered headphones. Connecting it to a HiFi will probably short this to earth and cause a high current to flow: hence the heat.

This is typical of all these adapters. They are designed to drive headphones, not external audio units.

quick delivery , easy to install , just remember though if you have onboard sound to disable it in hardware manager so they dont conflict.
brillant sound much better than the onboard , get some decent speakers too to make the best of it 2.1 will do even.

I purchased this item after reading various reviews,which i took with a pinch of salt.After all they sell by the thousand,so a few bad reviews are to be expected.WRONG!Things started well,all installed & running within 15 mins.Then, click, no sound. Windows media player showed 'media changing'.The screen was then frozen,I could not exit,I was unable to close the window or to turn off my computer.The only way I could get any response was to remove the usb plug to the sound card.The same thing has happened every time I've tried to use the device.I would definitely recommend spending a bit more for something that might work better than a chocolate teapot!

This is not what I thought it was, its little use unless you can listen to the track being cued, you can only do this if you have a 5.1 sound card which most laptops dont have.

This card now seems to work okay under Vista - mine came with Vista drivers on the CD, and they are on the Trust website.

Either it, or my Logitech Z-5400 speakres cannot handle TrueHD 5.1, but perfectly ok with Digital and DTS. I would need to find a set of speakers guaranteed to accept TrueHD before I can criticise it for that though.

The only problem I am having is playing "live" analogue line-in or microphone out of the speakres at the same time. Don't get me wrong, Line-In and Microphone both work, you can see the levels and can record using something like Audacity - I just cannot playback until recording is complete.
