I got this printer because I was fed up with frequent (and hence expensive) ink cartridge replacements for my Epson inkjet, that also gummed up if they weren't used for a week. All can say is this printer is excellent for the money, wish I'd bought one sooner. HP still make the best lasers. You can now get this machine for £100 if you shop around.

It's relatively quick for colour, quiet, and the prints are superb quality. Text and graphics are excellent, photographs not quite so good.

But like everything in life, it's not perfect:

Epson Stylus RX700 All in One Photo Printer, Scanner and Copier

At last a printer that lives up to all the hype about it.This RX700 is as good as everyone says it is.Having used Lexmark and HP before what was I thinking about,Epson rules from now on.Go that little bit further with the cash, you won't be disapointed with this model it really is that good.The ink is not cheap,but it is worth it for the results you get.You don't need Epson paper to get fantastic prints, what you pay more for on ink ,you can save on paper.The truth is out there it's the RX700.

The important thing to know about this scanner is that it is very good at scanning books, which is what it was designed for. It is not very good for photograph scanning. I scan books for a living and turn them into digitized facsimile versions on CD. Some of the books I scan are very old and delicate and include some hefty tomes several inches thick. This scanner has saved me hours of work that I used to have to spend "cleaning up" images. It virtually eliminates shadows even on tightly bound books. If I have a book with illustrations, I scan them on a photo scanner at a higher dpi and cut and paste, thus having the best of both worlds. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to scan books, especially if they are text only.

Whilst the finish, build-quality and software of the Epson multi-function machines is excellent - the actual cost of consumables - ink-cartridges - is staggering - for the average to low user of this machine the amount of ink wasted in priming the cartidges for use is amazing - having printed around 30-40 A4 pages plus perhaps half-a-dozen small photos I have had to replace the whole set of inks three times - the cost has been more than the machine itself. Despite numerous calls to Epson to ensure I wasn't doing anything wrong - they assured me this was the way the machine works - way, way too expensive in inks for the average users.
