Just bought this and have been truly impressed by its abilities. The navigation works well and all routes so far are exactly as I would have driven them, reroutes are processed quickly. The traffic information is also really useful and works well, though of course you must realise it works on a quiet fm frequency so it may not update immediately until in range. (see Traffic Master coverage. eg no use in Lake District).
I have even tested it flying back from Stockholm at 36000' in my A320, and although it could not follow the roads at 500mph (Europe main roads only) it did keep up with an accurate map, speed and altitude (in metres)!! So impessive my Dad immediately just bought one too.

Out of the wrapper, I could not get the clasp to close when used with my 720. I had to do a fair bit of "stretching" the leather. Even now it takes some work and fiddling to get it to close. That said I primarily bought the case to protect the screen, which it does a fine job of.

While I agree with other reviewers that the basemap isn't brilliant this is a lovely unit. Fast satellite acquisition, very sensitive and very accurate. We regularly achieve 5' position accuracy on our waypoints. I loaded up the city navigator maps that came with my other Garmin unit - you can use the maps on up to two registered products - and it had no problem routing us happily through the urban jungle and didn't lose satellite reception at all, unlike the in-car unit that often loses reception among tall buildings. If it had voice prompts as well it would be perfect for all uses! With a 2GB mini-SD card I'm sure you could load up the whole of Europe at once - or even North America if you're going there on holiday.

This is generally an excellent piece of kit though it is debatable just how often you might need to update. The technical info gives no date of mapping and there were obvious errors involving "new" roads even though some were more than five years old! A good example: if you were exiting the M25 (west) at Reigate, and following istructions, you would stay on the motorway missing the one and a half mile slip road, only to be told to take the slip road a mile too late. You can't! It would be helpful to give dates of accuracy and allow for downloading updates rather than having to buy a new SD card which is not cheap.
The best bit though is the speed with which the unit re-routes if you miss / choose to ignore, a turning. However it ... Read More:
