While covering the major sights that most tourists see, and having decent maps, far too much of this book is involved in endless listing of accomodation and restaurant options.Most sights are only covered in the most perfunctory way and very little attempt is made to convey the character of this exciting vibrant country. If you want a more detail and interesting read aimed at cheaper travel and seeing unusual sights then Moon Handbooks is a much better option.
Although usable this lacklustre book is typicall of the increasingly monotonous lonely planet brand.

I purchased this book, but I was sent the 8th edition dated September 2007. The latest version according to the Amazon site is the 8th revised edition dated 1 April 2008.

I therefore anticipate that the information contained within the book that I have recieved will be inaccurate.

I have contacted customer services to try and resolve the matter. So be aware of the issue above when you purchase the book. Make sure you get the correct one.

Really good book. Best travel book on fiji. Only warning would be that some prices are a tad out of date, as a general rule add around 15% to whatever it says on there, thats a good safety margin. Although some things really are the same price if not cheaper.

This was the most up-to-date (and indeed, pretty much the only) guidebook to the region that I could find. It's got all of the standard Lonely Planet features, and it is easy to find things and has a good balance of descriptive and factual information.

However, I found some of the opinions in it incomprehensible and would warn any reader to take them with a pinch of salt. One hotel described as being awful with tiny rooms turned out to be fantastic and one of the best places we stayed in. Likewise some of the sights are talked down inexplicably. There are also very few photographs.

In terms of size, it's certainly not as heavy as most multi-country guides, but is still far from pocket size. I managed to carry it ... Read More:

Initially I was rather dubious about buying this book as I wanted to learn as much Malay as possible and it seemed so small! I additionally purchased a CD & book set, but it is the compact Lonely Planet book which has been getting the most use. It is very easy to pick up and read, and as well as teaching the language, it has interesting comments on culture and history. Thoroughly recommended, and compact enough to take everywhere with you!
