I bought this guide before I travelled around Ecuador and other parts of South America last summer. Although it was helpful, well presented and laid-out, I found the guide disppointing in two main ways: The maps used are sometimes inaccurate in terms of where the symbols for bus stations, hotels etc have been placed, and some street names do not match those given in the guide; The guide has been badly edited in a few places, meaning that it is difficult to understand what point the author is trying to make. I also found that a lot of information in this edition is long out of date (if you are buying this, make sure to print of a copy of Lonely Planet's updates from their website, although I don't know how useful they are either). ... I had access to the Footprint of Namibia as well as this Lonely Planet guide for the last 19 days in Namibia. Being an avid LP guide user for many years it was my first choice, but I have to say it was eclipsed by the Footprint guide, and a downright disappointment at times. So much information I looked for was either missing or worse, wrong. Given that it is a 2007 edition I was amazed to discover that a bridge built over the Zambezi in 2004/5 to access Zambia from Namibia was missing. LP stated there was still a ferry only across the river, and as a result I would have driven via Botswana and Zimbabwe instead had I not had the Footprint.
I have also decided I don't like the way they always quote prices in US dollars - why not in the ... Read More:

I have visited quite a few Greek islands and found this book extremely useful. I recently went to the Cyclades and the detail was excellent, however if you're going to Syros/Myknonos area I'd also pack Nobble Hospital of the Aegean by Paul Judges which offers some fascinating insights.

After recently arriving home from a fantastic trip to Florence (Siena and Pisa), I must say how positively useful my husband and I found this guide. It gave us up to date information on the best locations to visit (away from the tourist trail), information on the best times to visit important places of interest (with helpful hints) and, most important of all, where to dine. We didn't have a bad meal! We also found the walks listed, very useful. All in all, this was a fantstic guide and well worth the money! Thanks Lonely Planet!!

I haven't had a problem with the accuracy and the usefulness of the information in this Lonely Planet guide to England. I have no complaints there. The prices and the opening times are right. The recommendations insightful and the options presented (more or less) clearly.
My only complaint is that the depth of information is quite limited and the maps don't often cover more than the very city town centre of most locations.
I can understand that the book can only be so big but really, who wants to carry around a chapter of England's history when you travel and then resort to a series of additional maps and guide information. If you're going to carry this great hunking book when you travel, take it to read as well as as your guide book and make ... Read More:

I bought this book in Tokyo before travelling to Vladivostok - not because it was my preferred choice, but because it was the only one I could find.
Whilst I agree with what the other reviewers have said, I couldn't have completed my Trans-Siberian trip without this book. I'd never have found the cheaper hotels along the route, nor had a clue what to see or how to get there. Unlike most destinations these days, a guide book is absolutely essential for independent Trans-Sib travellers and this one is not the best, but is better than none at all.

I could have almost been in the Black Forest with the wonderful descriptions.
Having visited all three places before, I would definately rate this book as an excellent book to travel to these places.
Another success from Lonely Planet!

This is a great guide whether you are island-hopping or simply someone who likes to go to Greece for your holidays. Also the format is very user-friendly and easier to navigate around than its main rival - The Rough Guide. The only Greek Islands guide book you'll ever need.
