This edition printed July 2008 is lacking in so many respects that I was left very frustrated. For example departure tax in Syria by land border is SYR£500 and by air SYR£1500, not the stated SYR£200 in the book. A lot of the maps were inaccurate. Adding 20% to most prices not the usual 10% seemed to be the order of the day. This guide seems too concerned in plugging 'the authors choice' (any kick backs involved...?) or showing pictures of people that could be 'nearly like us' with a personal profile and other nonsense. Having bought and used LP books for over 10 years, this is a poor effort and hugely dissapointing. It lacks the impartiality of other guides and the editorial stance seems to have shifted considerably since the BBC Worldwide ... Read More:

I did most of the French side this summer and found it to be spot on. You could be travelling to a town/city by train and reading about your destination, when you get there its totally like the descriptions in the book. Theres lots of background info on Swiss soceity/culture which helps you to chat with the locals by knowing their frame of reference.
If you want a good holiday in Switzerland you have to travel around and see the natural sights, this book is great for planning your itinery.
Only flaw I spotted was I was walking on a bridge in Bern that wasn't on the LP map and was lost for about 2 minutes.
If visiting, its best to buy this before you travel so you can do a day by day plan. I did and it ran very smoothly ... Read More:

Took this book on our Honeymoon to Bali in September. Absolutely essential tool for finding the huge number of hidden treasures. We were at Nusa Dua which was poorly covered, but bare in mind that the Lonely books are for your globe trotting surfer.
But the rest of the island was very well covered and gave some great detail on the main attractions.
The Island guide was very useful giving details of local customs and amenities.
Would make sure this is in your pocket when you go.
A few tips
1. Watch the "helpers" at the airport, they will swamp you at the conveyor and fleece you for the pleasure of carrying your bag. Just say no.
2. If you are at one of the big resorts/ hotel complexes, hire you first taxi through the hotel. ... Read More:

This book was invaluable when travelling in East Africa. The layout is easy to understand and it has basic country history, language and local information, as well as information about East Africa in general. There is not as much detain in the single East Africa book as in each individual country book, and although this was in some ways irritating it was useful when making last minute travel plans. Guide books are not widely available in east Africa, but it was easy to change plans to suit our requirements with the book covering the whole area. I would recommend a more specialised book for exploring one country in more depth, or to accompany this one.

For anyone new to Scotland who is intending to do some travelling around this is a cracking book. It covers just about any area of information needed from fauna & flora to transport options, general medical advice and detailed walking plans complete with maps. Even if you are not intending to do the walks it is still worth having just for the general information provided. Walking however, as the title implies, makes up the main part of the book and is very well done. Each walk is dissected, starting with a historical overview of the area and leading to information about what maps to take, the nearest towns, what to pack and a detailed description of the route. There is a small map for each walk, which gives a general idea of the terrain but this is not suitable ... Read More:
