I have been using the seat61 website since 2002 and it has helped me plan loads of fab train trips - to Budapest, Berlin, Granada, Lisbon, Rome and others. Now the book means I can continue planning from the comfort of my Saturday morning lie in, dreaming the morning away! Not just Seat 61 - he deserves a seat in the House of Lords!

I love going to new places and this book is great at giving you enough information about lots of different types of places you can visit to allow you to decide whether you would enjoy going there. The pictures are amazing and really give you that holiday feeling.
My only criticism..it was missing places that I felt should have been in the book!

This book then, Born to be Riled, is absolutely fantastic.
I have to say, this book is one of the best in the Clarkson series. I read the paperback version of this one, but also own the hardback version due to someone's error on eBay. Don't worry, though, I did get Clarkson's Motorworld hardback book which I actually ordered but got to keep B.T.B.R as well (haha, eBay loser!)
This book is unutterably fantastic. It includes all of Clarkson's usual wit, sarcasm and exaggeration.
His sense of humour is out of this world funny.
I still maintain he should become a guest on Mock the Week.
From cover to cover there'll be a smile on your face from ear to ear that'll cut your face clean in half.

I neded an overview on all South American countries and i got what i wanted - the directory at the back, a useful overview of S/A is just what i wanted.
Like all travel books they soon date and each author of each country writes from their opinion, which is not bad, but as in all L/P books there is so much repitition which could be covered in see appendix a, b , c etc. We all know that certain places are dangerious (the world over) and that you should not leave your bag lying around at the station - we hear these annoucments hourly at the airport!

Despite having enjoyed several of Bryson's other books, I couldn't really get into this one which was about his travels in Europe, roughly following in his own footsteps from 20 years earlier. It was well-written and quite witty but it took me most of the book to realise why I didn't hugely enjoy it. I think I didn't enjoy the book because he didn't enjoy the trip. He spent a lot of time moaning and this affected the tone of the book. I just wished he'd either find something to enjoy, or just pack up and go home.
He started off well, with a good amount of detail and good cheer and described the locations and people skillfully, but as it went on, you could feel him getting listless and this came through in his writing. I'd look up some of ... Read More:

The ever increasing size of this book reflects the increasing interest in wine, so it now lands with an impressive thump on your desktop. Though its content doesn't always reflect who that new market is.
The authors start with a, rather meandering, description of the history and production of wine and some basic notes on tasting, appreciation and handling of wine. Some of this is very useful, most of it is very basic for someone who already knows the subject and all of it could do with some editing to make the best of their material. Some of it punctures some of the myths about wine such as how long wines should be laid down and do you really need to let wine breath. Elsewhere they perpetuate some of those myths, for example they still seem to ... Read More:

This is without a doubt the best atlas available. I have other atlases from other publishers but they come nowhere near the Times Atlas for detail. This one has not only large maps showing the big places but also has the detail that you would expect from a map that covers a smaller area showing you the smallest towns.
If I want to look up a place this is the first reference I turn to.
It says 'Comprehensive Atlas of the World' on the cover and that is exactly what it is.

This guide book is the best I've read. The advice was invaluable and I trusted the recommendations, especially when it came to accommodation. It very quickly became my travelling companion and I followed its advice as much as I could. Don't leave home without it!
