Anyone who has lived in the UK for 20 years, let alone a travel writer, should know better than to attempt to criss-cross the country using only public transport. This is how Mr. Bryson captures one day's travels:

"Thus it was, fourteen hours after setting off from Porthmadog that morning, that I arrived tired, dishevelled, hungry and full of woe, in Blackpool, a place I didn't particularly want to be anyway."

On arrival in Britain's great cities, problems with navigation and locating their glories persisted:

A book of out of the way, out of the ordinary camping is a terrific idea, which is why I bought the book. Many of the sites featured look amazing, and they have all been personally 'road-tested' by the CC crew. So far so very good. However there is a (quite a big in my view) downside in that although there is on the surface a large choice of sites, in reality this amounts to an average of less than four sites in each of the 23 counties/regions represented.

So if you want to use this to plan a trip, rather than take it with you, then its really good and will get you to some really interesting off-the-beaten-track places (and I do intend to try some of them out), but much less use as something you carry around in your panniers or ... Read More:

There are very many things that I love about this book. So far I've had it a very short time and have already had an incredibly therapeutic swim, about 10 miles from where I have lived for over 20 years, which I had no idea was there. It was the most beautiful spot and the pub recommended in the book was such a find, being friendly, serving good beer and food, having a gorgeous wildflower garden and being over a thousand years old.

Having this book means I am much more likely to get out and swim in beautiful places, and not just paddle, worried about currents, debris and pond weed. So all those good intentions are finally coming good and I can entice friends along too. It's definitely going to be the basis of many UK holidays to come. ... Read More:

Beautiful in it's self this was really useful fo pulling out the 'must see' scenic bits of China when planning an extended trip. The most useful guide book I found (and the only one of the 3 I purchased that I'll be lugging with me to China) was Frommer's China (Frommers Complete) published in April 2008.

This whole series of books is seriously inspiring and a complete joy to browse through. The photos are breathtaking, the commentary is engaging and the whole book is thoroughly compelling. I've already booked my next holiday to include 3 of the suggestions made in these books!

We are planning a fly-drive trip to the USA and we have been looking for information/things to do in places.We initially looked at the Foders books but then stumbled across this book. What a fantastic informative book, the only problem with having this book is we need to book a longer holiday !!!
It is excellent value for money and a must have for fly-drive touring of the USA.

I bought this item for a work colleague who was travelling on her dream holiday to Mexico.

I looked through this and thought wow, what a really good journal! They're sections for photos, tickets, souvenirs etc and note pages for remembering those forgotten items or special moments.

My friend loved the book...I'm just waiting for her to return to share her experience with me. Good value for what you get.

Brit Guide to Orlando

When the blurb says that this is an easy to use guide it, rather unusually, has it spot on.This book guides you through your trip to Orlando, the theme parks, other entertainmnet, night life and most importantly shopping (well maybe not). The focus on this being for the British Reader is excellent, with everything being described for those travelling from Britain. The reviews are fair, although, as ever, it is written from the point of view of those who love thrill rides and everything else is described as being a bit tame. All the theme parks are covered in detail, but I particularly like the way other areas of Orlando are given equal coverage. The guide to eating out is comprehensive and there is a clear guide to the malls and discount outlets. I rate this book ... Read More:
