I read this book whilst on holiday in the Indre area of central France and could identify with the descriptions of villages, towns and people. I found it to be a positive take on life in rural France, which I was able to read at a leisurely pace. I didn't give it five stars because, although I enjoyed it and it was a pleasant read, for me it wasn't a 'page-turner' and I wasn't quite left with the feeling of wanting to read more. I would, however, recommend it to friends as a fun and light-hearted book, which takes you away to the lovely, simplified lifestyle of rural France.

This is a reasonably up to date guide to the fast moving world of GPS that reveals what you can and can't do with your gps. For the UK user this will help you make some sense of settings, grid systems and the differences between waypoints, trackpoints and routes. It shows how much is available on the internet to enable you to use your gps to its maximum. The book is a very easy, non-technical read that you can dip into or read thoroughly. I bought a very good gps but, to be honest, had no idea what to do with it yet, very quickly, the author has shown me how to make more sense of the bewildering Garmin handbook. I heartily recommend this volume to anyone who wants to buy a gps or someone who would like to do more with their receiver but is not ... Read More:

When Billy Bryson wrote this book Nancy Reagan was still twitching the net curtains at the White House. 4 presidents later counting the president elect to date and could it be that this book is still relevant and contemporary? I haven't been to the states myself but seeing the recent election and the excitement engendered by some middle american farmers for a woman shooting a moose the answer must be 'Yes indeedy doo, you betcha'
Billy B moves from one crudbucket town to another with hilarious opinions, spending nights in seedy motels in beds that sometimes appear to have been vacated by a horse, eating fast foods in diners with views of parking lots once the scenes of important battles. Visiting wax works and souvenir shops selling ... Read More:

This is the latest guide on Cape Town & surrounds to be released (Oct 08) and being the most up-to-date makes it a worthwhile purchase. However, I think a lot more could have gone into this guide and the coverage of certain key tourist areas is lacking substantially. Buy this guide but do your own research on the internet to find the best places to stay, bars, clubs and restaurants. Don't just rely on this guide for that! For less than £9 on the web it's worth having, at RRP of £12.99 it's overpriced.

A very attractive coffe table book, full of high quality images. However, in terms of garden design and maintenance it is a little bit specialist for my taste. Overall, this is one for the garden historian rather than the gardener. Btw - a previous review questions why gardens belonging to the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) aren't included in the book. I suspect it's because NTS is an entirely seperate organisation from the National Trust for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, rather than the author not rating gardens north of the border.

This map is the Mercator one which almost everyone sees and is good for navigation but is totally incorrect for showing the size of countries and continents. It shows Greenland to be about the same size of Africa when in fact, Africa is 13 times larger.
Everyone should look up Peters Projection on the web to realise this.

"Compiled by Steve Clark, bestselling author of The Only Fools and Horses Story, and television expert Shoba Vazirani, it reveals the settins for dozens of top television shows. From Emmerdale to Lewis and from Last of the Sumer Wine to Life on Mars The British Television Location Guide gives details of how you can visit the places you have seen so many times on the box."
Beautifully presented and well researched - this is a must for those who enjoy behind the scenes information. Wonderful colour photographs grace the pages next to information about your TV favourites. Essential.

As me and a friend are planning a round the world trip this series of books has been a great help. In picking places where to go it's helpful to know whats there! Were mainly backpacking and using hostels so specific country guides aimed at this was essential. We needed to know campsites, country entry requirements, cost of living, activities, etiquette, transport options, do's and don'ts and most importantly what the food was like! As well as info on touring in campervans, car or footslogging. The book has it all and more. It covers all such topics and then reviews each place in the country individually. It has topics on law, car rental and purchase, gay and lesbians interests and so much more. If your travelling to this country then this book ... Read More:

Maybe this is not for the very serious walker, but for those of us not up to the longer walks, this provides a very good resource in terms of variety and coverage and the fact it caters for shorter walks. It would not be possible to provide the required level of detail for all 1001 walks in one book, so I think a local map would always be advisable. We are pleased with it.
