This map is wonderful for putting into context a lot of historical monuments, those you know well, and a lot you've heard of but can't place. It's well put together with all the plus points of an ordnance survey map making places easy to find. It's also so lovely to look at I'm thinking of putting it on my wall!

I searched for this book under 'comedy' and have to say it hardly raises the mouth corners at any point or at least the third I read didn't. I'm sure it's well written and it's factual and informative but if you are looking for Jeremy Clarkson style quick wit then it's not for you.

Winner of the Orwell Prize 2008. Raja Shehadeh's twenty seven years going on sarha's, wandering the hills of Ramallah and beyond, form the warp and the weft of a life rich with observations. The purpose of a sarha is to wander freely and aimlessly, to nourish the soul and rejuvenate. Each walk combines poignant, lyrical, reflections of a vanishing landscape with an ancient history. Along with that, eloquent stories of the people who cultivated the land with terraces of olive trees and grapevines. Poetic, political, and spiritual, this second edition has seven unique walks, each one embracing real people, past and present.

The third book in the "lemons" series does not disappoint, although the book has a break from the familiar stories of the Orgiva locals in the middle of the book - I believe Chris wants to steer further into the direction of travel writing so I would assume this will be the last book of the series.. but I have visited the area around Orgiva and there is plenty to write about.
I find chris's writing humourous and friendly which is what makes the stories and characters so likeable.

I read this book whilst on holiday in the Indre area of central France and could identify with the descriptions of villages, towns and people. I found it to be a positive take on life in rural France, which I was able to read at a leisurely pace. I didn't give it five stars because, although I enjoyed it and it was a pleasant read, for me it wasn't a 'page-turner' and I wasn't quite left with the feeling of wanting to read more. I would, however, recommend it to friends as a fun and light-hearted book, which takes you away to the lovely, simplified lifestyle of rural France.

This is a reasonably up to date guide to the fast moving world of GPS that reveals what you can and can't do with your gps. For the UK user this will help you make some sense of settings, grid systems and the differences between waypoints, trackpoints and routes. It shows how much is available on the internet to enable you to use your gps to its maximum. The book is a very easy, non-technical read that you can dip into or read thoroughly. I bought a very good gps but, to be honest, had no idea what to do with it yet, very quickly, the author has shown me how to make more sense of the bewildering Garmin handbook. I heartily recommend this volume to anyone who wants to buy a gps or someone who would like to do more with their receiver but is not sure how to do so. ... Read More:

When Billy Bryson wrote this book Nancy Reagan was still twitching the net curtains at the White House. 4 presidents later counting the president elect to date and could it be that this book is still relevant and contemporary? I haven't been to the states myself but seeing the recent election and the excitement engendered by some middle american farmers for a woman shooting a moose the answer must be 'Yes indeedy doo, you betcha'
Billy B moves from one crudbucket town to another with hilarious opinions, spending nights in seedy motels in beds that sometimes appear to have been vacated by a horse, eating fast foods in diners with views of parking lots once the scenes of important battles. Visiting wax works and souvenir shops selling pictures of farmers ... Read More:

As travel guides go, this one combines three very different places... first there's Singapore with its very modern outlook. Then there's Malaysia bridging the vibrant outlook of Kuala Lumpur with the colonial history of Georgetown. Finally there's Brunei which is a whole lot more laid back.
In terms of contents, there's the usual details of history, etiquette, sights etc. There's also the usual combination of excellent maps with only the occassional mistake where a particular landmark has been put on the wrong side of the road. Restaurant and accomodation advice are as usual mixed (many are gone by the time you visit) but it certainly provides good ideas if you are struggling to find somewhere, and also tells you the general area to find stuff.
