This book is stunning! The pictures and beautiful descriptions just make you want to get on an aeroplane and head over to Italy. I really enjoyed the accompanying televsion series but the book is great and written extremely well.

We took this map on our recent trip to NZ and it was the only map we used, it's clear to read, loved the street maps of most major towns, great for finding camp sites & points of interest. We've passed it on to friends who are travelling in December and hope they find it as useful as we did. Our 10 year old son was able to use it to navigate and find out interesting facts about the country. Highly recommended!

I Never Knew That About Ireland

I RECKON I know a fair amount about Ireland but even I found some little gems in this very entertaining book.
Dracula may have been an Irishman and Glenveagh castle was the site of the world's largest outdoor swimming pool (they heated the lough with steam pipes) ... apparently.
As well as being choc-a-bloc with quirky facts, historical and architectural information, the book's organisation - broken down by county - makes it easy to find stuff relevant to where you live or travel.
It's this structure which gives 'I Never Knew...' the edge over the equally entertaining and probably more odd 'The Irish Companion'(ed) Brendan Nolan. The latter is a great read but you just have to digest it in the order it is served.

This is lavishly illustrated book that I suspect will appeal more to those who are thinking about where to start diving. It is really a coffee-table book. More serious divers are more likely to pick up a copy of the "Diver Travel Guide". The "Diver Travel Guide" is updated annually or at least very regularly. I'm fairly sure that I picked up a complimentary copy with "Diver" magazine but it can certainly be bought separately.

The "Diver Travel Guide" provides a concise description of each destination followed by a fact file which summarises the relative cost; water temperature and an indication of what thickness wetsuit to wear; visa requirements and inoculations. A Walk in the Woods

A Walk in The Woods was an adventure in itself for me. I have previously walked long distance trails in England and sat gobsmacked as I read how long the AT was and that Bryson was going to walk it without any real training. But I'm so pleased that he did.
He takes his mate along with him, who at first you wish Bryson would shove over a cliff, safe in the knowledge that he could blame a deliverance style event but gradually we learn to love Steven and marvel at his endurance. Bill is clearly much fitter and much kinder but they make for a great team - take him somewhere else with you.

An enormously evocative work. MacFarlane is a deeply sensitive writer, and manages to maintain a intense creative tension between wilderness and civilisation. If you are into the wilderness and outdoors, and have ever struggled to put into words what it is, and why you do it. Then this book is for you.

I have used this map for two trips around NZ, and will use it again for my third trip later this year as it is still in great condition considering the daily folding and unfolding that you inevitably do as you travel the length and breadth of this fantastic country. As it is small and lightweight it is ideal just to tuck in your suitcase or backpack no need to carry a big bulky map around.

A must for any NZ traveller, at a reasonable price.
