This book is a very informative, enlightening and interesting read.
This book is a pleasure to read. It is easy to follow the author as he travels around the world. He starts explaining briefly about his background in Poland and his desire to `cross the border' and how, as a consequence, he finds himself being sent to India.
Perhaps one of the main attractive qualities of the author is that he is honest; he doesn't say he likes or even enjoys all of the places he travels to. For example, taking his first long-haul trip to India, the reader gets the impression that he really entered at the deep end and found it quite tough.
Later in the book he goes on to discuss in more detail the reasons why people ... Read More:

I did a camping tour of the USSR in 1977. Before I went I attended night school for two years to learn Russian. At the side of my experiences Russia by Jonathon Dimbleby is flat and boring. He fails to bring out the depths of the people. Irritated by his maundering on about his 'problems'. he should get a life. I guess it only got published because the BBC were backing it. Advice: if you want to read it search the charity shops; there will be many dust covered copies hanging round their shelves.

The simple concept of this journey was to walk from the hook of Holland to Istanbul following the two main arteries of Europe: the Rhine and the Danube. The book was written from pre-war notebooks so some of the language is slightly unfamiliar at first. Once you get over your modern cynicism the gentle pace and detailed descriptions will pull you through the slowly changing landscape of Europe. You will feel the cold of blizzards through dense woodlands and then warm up to drink schnapps in a Bavarian Inn. Despite the poetic prose and flawless rhythm the real strength of this book is the sheer scale and range of knowledge shown by PLF. I was never let down by his ceaseless curiosity, a curiosity which feeds off the assortment of characters he conversed with and ... Read More:

...is not a passion halved in this case. I, like MacFarlane, am a bloke slightly obsessed with mountains and he took me back to some good memories of climbs that I will probably never attempt again. It was with open-eyed exhilaration that I read this book. Splendid reading, even for those who like level terra firma.

Okay, I'm only 12 years old. But, I've grown out of Beano (as you've probably gathered by this review). I Know You Got Soul is a riveting read. Magnificently written in every way. If I was a critic, and by no means am I, I'm certain I couldn't find a flaw with it.
This book is a compilation of 21 marvellous machines that have something that other machines just haven't got. The list includes Concorde, the AK47, the Spitfire, Yamato, the Millennium Falcon, the B-52, the Graf Zeppelin and many others. As soon as I started reading this book, I could see where he was coming from.
In this spectacular read, Clarkson explains the machines that he thinks have soul, and he's not afraid to tell you what doesn't.
With his usual style, wit, unruly humour, and ... Read More:

No, really, don't!
I read it yesterday during my breaks on a course I was on, but, unfortunately, did not realize for some time that the other people in the room, all strangers, were giving me some very odd looks and edging away because, totally engrossed and loving another Leader Classic I was laughing out loud, often, and loudly. Oh dear.
However, those warnings in mind, I would absolutely recommend this one. It's very short but very, very funny. Trust me. It is.

A beautifully packaged account of the 100 best golf courses in the UK and Ireland. This is a well photographed and well researched book which is a perfect addition to any golfers collection of literature about the game. It is concise yet detailed, with an interesting mix of the authors considered views merged with the opinions of the many who visit the website. An ideal buy for anybody visiting the UK wishing to play the best courses and some of the hidden gems, but also a great read for those who want to enjoy a society day or as a supporting guide for a holiday. I could imagine it making a great stocking filler at xmas for any golfer. Great value.
