This book certainly meets the typical high standard of other Cadogan guides I've used. It's an entertaining read, explains the very different cultures and looks of northern and southern Croatia well, and is nicely descriptive and selective, which makes it easy to choose the kind of place you dream of for a holiday. It really makes you want to go there and it's pretty accurate, too, from what I could tell.

We used this book and especially liked the pictures which captured the spirit of the Amazon and helped to inspire us where to go. The background information on the Plants and animals was as comprehensive as is possible in a travel guide. All were written by experts in their area, and the Bibliography helped point us to the top field guides. The history and section on indigenous people is eye-opening. Finally, the practical information helped us choose a good, reliable jungle lodge and tour company, and made our memorable trip possible.

As someone who loves to travel the world, I never realised how much England had to offer. I bought this book on a whim to see how to kill time in Bath on a business trip. I never realised it would make me visit Cambridge, Worcester, Stratford and York as well. Until I found this book, I would look forward to a trip to Europe once ever 6-8 weeks, now I know I can have 1 or 2 trips to exotic, historic jewels in England between and wonder why I went to Europe in the first place. Thank you Mr. Macdonald for opening my eyes to my own heritage.

It's handy to find a guide that focusses on these three cities without lumping them in with the south coast resorts. I hadn't used a Cadogan guide before and was pleasantly surprised. The book is light and portable - there are smaller guides, but you can still fit this in a small bag.

The text is easy to read and the layout accessible. There are nice colour photos at the front, which I think give a good representation of the region. There are no other pictures though, which is something of a shame. The maps are black and white but quite easy to follow, and cover a wider area than those in some other books.

Brittany (Cadogan Guides)

This guide is fine if you are interested in the history of the region. My family travelled to Brittany this Summer and were a bit disappointed with this book because we found it difficult to use and not very easy on the eye. The sections are long and heavy on text, so it is sometimes difficult to locate the information that you need quickly.

As a regular visitor to Italy during the last fifteen years, I have been impressed by Cadogans Guides dedication to details. Looking for a reasonable priced hotel in Asti ? - They've got it ! A particular Palladio-villa near Treviso ? - thev've got (and a bar in the vicinity for a quick espresso). And always added with some surprising comments and understated humour.

I have just ordered the most recent edition for "Rome, Naples and Sorrento" for my next trip October 2001.
