First off, I have to say that any country guide that gets the notes and coins of the local currency wrong should be viewed with the deepest suspicion! (Rogerson thinks that there's a 10 Dihram note...). Having said that, despite Rogerson's occasional tendency to snobbery, this is a concise, informative and very readable effort. Crucially, we felt that it neglected likely day-trip destinations around Fes, the restaurant recommendations are annoyingly opinion-free, and no mention was made of Morocco's appallingly badly behaved ATM network. Still, a good alternative to Lonely Planet's dated tome. I'd give it 3.5/5 if I could, just coz the cover's so much nicer in design than it's rivals.

I'm not reviewing this item - I don't have it - but I do have 5 other Cadogan guides (Rome, Sicily, North East Italy, Tuscany, Umbria and the Marches and Italy), so am I the Cadogan traveller that the previous reviewer refers to?
I'm very fond of this series and it's my first choice to take on holiday (virtually all of my holidays are to Italy). I've never eaten poorly in a restaurant they've recommended (although my first choice for accommodation is Alastair Sawday).
The guides kick off with a few pages of excellent photos and a decent spot of history (readable in the queues to check in and get through security nowadays). Their main emphasis is then on the art and architecture and they take you to places you might ... Read More:

The author has a wide knowledge and experience of parasitology and travel medicine, gained over many years of living, working and travelling abroad. Readers of her books have come to appreciate not only the breadth of her knowledge and experience but also her engaging way of writing about her subject. Those who have read previous editions of this book will not be disappointed with the latest edition and those new to her writing will find much to educate, stimulate and amuse them. The book is aimed at travellers but health care professionals with an interest in travel health will also find it a valuable source of information. The content of the book is wide ranging, covering as it does preparation for travel and what to do on returning home as well ... Read More:

A very comprehensive guide book. It describes things to see and do by area, westminster, trafalgar square, soho and chinatown etc. It gives listings of places to stay, eat, and enjoy nightlife. The book gives suggestions of days out to see literary London and local London.

The Cadagon guides to Italy have always served me well, and when I set out on my travels clutching a copy of BAY OF NAPLES AND SOUTHERN ITALY in my sticky paw, I thought I was in good hands. I shall give the book its due by saying that the Bay of Naples information was OK. But alas, whoever researched Calabria, Basilicata and Puglia did it very sketchily indeed. There was far too little information on show-stoppers such as the Sila, Matera, Lecce, Ostuni and Trani, and some of the information was downright wrong. My companion, a lecturer from the University of Catania, couldn't believe how hopeless the information was.
I do hope that Cadogan will revise the guide. The toe and heel of Italy deserve a lot more attention. And the Riace Bronzes ... Read More:

This book crosses the line between guide book and tourist brochure. Its gushy text, whilst enthusiastic, is of little practical value. This guide could be useful if you are on a package tour and want to get a feel for the island. If you are planning your own trip, this book might be a useful adjunct to another guide.
