It can be hard to review an accommodation guide unless you've tried all the recommended suggestions but with a "brand" like Sawdays you get to know what matters to them and happily that's what matters to me too. As usual this guide provides a range of accommodations to suit most budgets.
Accommodation is an important part of any trip and if it's wrong then your holiday can be spoiled.
I always read as much information as I can before deciding where to stay so devour guides but I find Sawdays information to be reliable and honest and I haven't been let down yet, although I have yet to sample the accommodation chosen from this book.

Alastair Sawday established his reputation with his discerning guides to France and the UK. He has now extended his extraordinary eye for special, individual and perhaps eclectic accommodation to Morocco. Having tested out his recommendations he has got it spot on once again! This book can be relied upon to reveal those gems not found in travel agents' brochures.

Much like all of Sawday's fantastic guide's, this latest guide to the Pubs and Inns of Britain is quite superb. Having just returned from 4 days in Cornwall, my husband and I visited 9 Sawday pubs! They were all exceptional -We became quite excited at the thought of what we'd find at each new spot, tiny smugglers fishing coves with sumptous beer and crab, stunning cliff-top views with crashing seas, Doom Beer and spinach, rosemary & bacon soup or even peaceful river views with a barbecue. Quite unique- we wouldn't go away without it now. It is so incredibly refreshing to find a guide to not only the great British pub but especially the ones with our wonderful Britsh produce. Do not hesitate to buy this.

The selection of places to stay in Paris in this book is great, very varied as is the usual with the Sawday guides, and all special in their own way. I had the old book and was impressed with the new additions. I stayed in Hotel du Jeu de Paume and can't recommend it enough. The hotel is really lovely, but the area is fantastic. It's on L'lle Saint-Louis, an island in the middle of the Seine. You can have a beer or coffee over looking the back of the Cathedral of Notre Dame, and nowhere near the crowds in front of it. It's what you imagine Paris to be. A great book that won't let you down, a good investment in my opinion...

Alastair Sawday is simply the best. We first purchased this Italy Guide book with the aim of getting an idea of where we would like to stay on our Honeymoon in Italy. Before booking anyting we decided to buy the UK Bed and Breakfast guide and try out a few places. We stayed in Yorkshire, Devon and Dorset and were sold. During our Honeymoon we stayed at 3 places listed in the Italy book and all were absolutely perfect. These are the only guide books we have found where the description perfectly matches reality - we had an amazing couple of weeks! Since this trip we have travelled in France, again using these guides, this time staying in 4 places, and we were not dissappointed once. Thanks Alistair.

Recently we stayed in a number of establishments recommended through this guide; well done for producing such a great book! By the way we also use their guides to other regions of the world - excellent too.

Amongst those we stayed in we particularly enjoyed Hotel Le Domaine aux Quat'Saisons, Carcassonne [...]; a haven of exceptional good taste, comforts and style, not to mention the delicious food.

We have enjoyed using Alastair Sawdays guides to find really interesting places to stay in our travels in France and Italy. So when his Special Places to Stay - Greece - was published in February I was quick to buy a copy.
We have just returned from an Easter trip which included travel on mainland Greece and also to Corfu and Lefkas and am pleased to report that Alastair Sawday's new guide is an essential companion for travels in Greece.
We successfully used the book to find lovely overnight accommodation on our travels. First there was the delightful Ganimede Hotel (entry number 177) in the pretty coastal village of Galaxidi. I bought this book for a friend who has taken three holidays in Croatia now
and each time has said 'great place, awful hotel'. Of course, I couldn't
help but flick through it and once again it looks as if this latest
Sawday's guide manages to find something that will suit every
taste and budget. From a swanky new hotel with hand made, made to measure
cherry wood furniture in each room to full board on a organic farm.
Croatia seems to be making huge efforts to promote eco-tourism and
I've no doubt that this new guide will assist in this quest. This book
(with the usual high standard of photography and text) makes it easy to

This book has proved to be a god send when i have needed to find a good bed and breakfast when i have been travelling round the country with my work, which is often. All the places i have stayed have been top notch and now it is the first place i always go to in order to find a reliably good place to stay.
The places are described extremely well and the book itself has delightful photos of the places which also makes it a pleasure to read.
The book will tell you everything you need to know about the property; the hosts, how many rooms are there, whether they allow pets/children etc and if they are "green/organic".

We used this book to plan a touring holiday in France this year and it was absolutely indispensable. All of the places where we stayed were well described and proved to deliver exactly what they promised. We found all of the owners accomodating and eager to please and all of the directions were clear and easy to follow. We stayed at one particularly grand "Domaine" in the Loire that was fantastic, with every detail attended to. Our favourite though was a small Chateau near Alencon which had been in the same family for 15 generations. The guests (all 12 of us!) dined together at the huge dining table in the magnificent dining hall and it was rather like attending a rather good dinner party each evening! A marvellous place that we would never have found without Sawday.
