Having grown up in Cornwall I thought I knew the southwest inside out, but thanks to Alastair Sawday and his intrepid team I have discovered corners of this ancient part of our country I never knew existed. And more, wonderful people in glorious houses who offer the sort of hospitality and accommodation that kicks the corporate kind into the distance. The pubs and Inns section also leads one to more charming hosteleries to quaff and chat before tucking into delicious food. Wish I'd found these guides years ago, Italy with Sawday next!

I often turn to the Alastair Sawday website for help when looking for a place to stay. But there is nothing better than the guide. The maps give you a clear idea where the B&B's are, and you can then flip through the relevant entries to find one that suits you. And you can be sure that any one of them will be something out of the ordinary and worth the visit. I don't use anything else.

My family & I live in India and run a Travel Consultancy business for visitors to India and Bhutan. We have sent our guests to many parts of the country, visiting hotels we have discovered ourselves and also those run by our relatives & friends.
After having bought this guide book we were pleased to discover that many of our most favored places are listed beautifully.
I can highly recommend this book to anyone planning on traveling extensively in India & looking for just the right place to stay.

If you want to find a Special place to stay, ask Alastair Sawday.

Unlike other ratings for places to stay, Sawday's really live up to what they say. You won't find an abundance of places in your chosen locale, but the few that have been unearthed are real gems.

In the Ireland book, you can stay in a cosy cottage, a sumptuous castle or even a lighthouse! Also, he doesn't just list places that cost the earth; over 85 places do B&B for two at £70 or less per night. This book cannot be recommended enough.

Definitely a worthwhile purchase if you mean to stay in Ireland.

This is a great book showing the best Hotels and Inns in the U.K. Since purchasing it I have used it several times, never to be dissapointed. Its definitely worth a buy.

Thinking of renting a holiday home? Get ready for the boredom of searching the internet for hours and looking through those, what can only be described as boring, glossy magazines, where a house next to the motorway is described as peaceful!!

Well things have changed thanks to Alistair Sawday who has created something very special indeed with this book. I can safely say it is the only book full of holiday homes that I actually enjoy picking up in the evening and reading. There is everything from ski chalets to seaside retreats: rustic, ramshackle houses, to grand châteaux's.

We have successfully used Alastair Sawday's "French Bed and Breakfast" on many occasions in the past to find really special overnight stops on our frequent travels in France, from working farms to Bed and Breakfasts, providing gastronomic dinners with wine.

Entry number 50, Mme Warlop, was particularly memorable for a lovely meal with her in her "dazzling house" in the Somme area and for relaxed conversation with her over dinner. We have never been disappointed and often have had memorable stays.
