Recently we stayed in a number of establishments recommended through this guide; well done for producing such a great book! By the way we also use their guides to other regions of the world - excellent too.

Amongst those we stayed in we particularly enjoyed Hotel Le Domaine aux Quat'Saisons, Carcassonne [...]; a haven of exceptional good taste, comforts and style, not to mention the delicious food.

Why did I title my review like this? Quite simply, the reason is that I have the previous edition and normally would not dream of updating with the previous version only just over a year old. However, when I saw in the foreword that there were around 50 additions in the latest, I couldn't resist (particularly given the current good offer on Amazon!). The main reason I couldn't resist is that a couple of months ago I stayed in the best hotel (note, not the one with the most stars) I have ever stayed in in this country. I'm not going to give away where it was but it lived up to all of the Sawday's promises 'nothing dull', 'delightful people' and so on. It was wonderful.

Having bought several B&B guides for a touring holiday of Ireland, we found this guide to be the most useful in terms of accurate descriptions, good directions and ease of use. We like our home comforts, but also like to find places with character, quirkiness and with friendly hosts. This guide took the guesswork out of the selection process. We stayed at 4 places within the guide and were more than delighted with every one. We would definitely use other 'Special Places to Stay' guides in the future.

I read the introduction from Alastair Sawday's book and at once I knew this was the guide I needed. It's a funny, friendly, full of great tips. It's almost as if you are being recommended little known places and interesting tit bits on the city by a trusted friend. My boyfriend and I stayed at one of the hotels, it was one of very cheap ones, but we didn't want to pay much because we were going to a very expensive concert.
Anyway it was really good value, really central (Russell Sq) and had a very upbeat feel. Other places in the book look really homely, or very elegant and so we need to find another excuse to go up to London soon, so we can try some more out.

My husband has talked about Morocco since the 70s but I never felt brave enough to go there. He just brought home this new Sawday's guide and I spent two hours lost in a dream world reading it. The comments, practical information, and insight into the cultural, made me want to get on a plane and go. There were wonderful descriptions of the different places to stay and photos that made each one look like a dream. The owners sounded like people I wanted to meet. All the accomodations sounded interesting, ranging from grand palaces to an old London bus parked in the desert. I wanted to stay at every place they listed just for the experience.
