My son was given this for Christmas and was very excited at the prospect of looking at the stars and moon, but the flimsy build quality is a great disappointment and renders the telescope very difficult to use. The focusing mechanism and tripod are the two main problems. The focus relies on the image lens tube sliding in and out of the objective lens tube but the inner tube also wobbles up and down inside the outer tube, making it next to impossible to keep something in view as you focus. The tripod and the way it mounts is an even greater problem. The tripod is made of three filmsy, lightweight plastic tubes and attaches to a plastic bracket on the underside of the telescope, secured by a plastic screw. My grandparents had a rock polisher when I was a child and I used to love choosing the stones and then the finished items were so beautiful! This polisher is great value. As previous reviewers have said it is incredibly noisy and it does need to run 24/7 so this could be a problem. I have found that you need to take a week for each polishing phase to get a really good finish and this cuts down on the interest factor for children however my son is very excited when he sees the final result. We have polished the stones that come with the machine and also some that we picked up off the beach and even the beach ones look fantastic when polished.
