Classic Etch A Sketch - The World's Favourite Drawing Toy

Bought this for my daughter last Christmas and frankly hasn't worked properly since. You can't get rid of the previous drawing. The new drawing line is so thin and faint you have to go over the line a number of times to see it. All in all very disappointing and not at all like the original one I had many years ago.

My girls couldn't wait to use this so we waited until we had a spare Saturday afternoon and then set to work.

The mixes make the most disgusting cakes you can imagine. We decided to ice one anyway. The icing came out in a big puddle and the cake flew out and landed upside down on the kitchen side. It was very funny at the time but the girls were left very disappointed as the cupcake maker was put back into its box, never to be used again.

A truly ridiculous toy.

There are thousands of new games every year. Most of them disappear without a trace. Some acquire a devoted but small following. Just a few become classics. Rummikub is one these.

Invented in Romania in 1940, Rummikub is essentially a tile version of the traditional card game Rummy. It didn't really make it internationally until the 1970s, but by 1980 it had won a string of awards and established itself as a great family game.

Basically, it's about creating sets of three or more in a row of tiles either in runs of the same colour (1-2-3-4 etc), or the same number but in different colours. Actually we bought this for £1.50 from a charity shop but over the past 2 years it has proved a major hit with the whole family. In contrast to others, our version appears to be reasonably well made and the sticks are both long enough and flexible enough to work perfectly.

The only down side of the game is the time taken to set it up - poking the sticks through the holes. A bit of care and attention pays off here if the marbles are to be retained for as long as possible. We give the kids a section each to fit the stick in and this keeps them amused for several minutes.

Marbles falling are accompanied by gales of laughter. One of the most popular toys that we own and a real design classic.

Crayola Doodle Daisy

I bought this item as my 3 and a half year old daughter saw the advert on TV and asked if she could have one. I thought I would buy it for Easter instead of Easter eggs as she would get eggs from her grandparents and she would enjoy doodle daisy more. The parcel arrived and with much excitement we set it up. There are holes for 5 pens on the front arms, there are shape stamps on each of the 6 feet and the hat has 8 stencil shapes. The stamps and shapes are functional just as any other stamps and stencils are (they do what they're supposed to do). The main feature of doodle daisy is the spirograph function. I remember playing this when I were a lad, way back in t'eighties, and like all great games it hasn't changed at all.

It takes no time to put together, is brightly coloured, makes lots of noise and has loads of balls rattling about, so for a family with a three year old it's a winner from the start. If only it came in a bigger box so I could store it properly...

Fisher-Price Baby Gymtastics Bounce & Spin Zebra

We bought this item for our daughter last Christmas and is a much loved toy, our daughter is almost 2 now and it still gets played with every day I am also a childminder and it is a favourite with children from 9 months to 3 years. Much more fun than the more old fashioned rocking horse and very well made, very sturdy and boy does it get some bouncing!!
I would recommend this fab toy, a perfect present and a welcome addition to any playroom!

It's really good how they manage to make him shut up into his little box, and at the push of a button he appears again.
My daughter won't go anywhere without him, which is fine as he's not too large to carry around.
