My little boy loves cranky, so this was the take along thomas toy for him. It is limited as cranky lifts up three items from the ship to the trains and the trains can be pushed around a circuit. The light house makes some noises as does the gates. But after a day of play my little boy needs more track and some more of the take along thomas sts to fulfill the imaginary games. They are just changing track type so the extra track oI bought can only be attached with the special track pieces. It is all a bit plastic, and cranky is already not rewinding his cord. He just is not durable enough for little boys. Once cranky gives up winding the toy will be out of favour and for the price, I am just not as pleased as I had hoped.

Wooden Thomas & Friends: James the Red Engine

My 3 year old (a great Thomas Fan) was given a Flair James as a present. He gives all his wooden engines a hard life! But, I must say the Flair toy has faired much much worst than all his older Brio engines (I understand that Brio no longer make Thomas toys), the paint finish has really flaked and worn away, the toy also appears to be much more flimsily held together -not screwed like the Brio engines and will need to be kept an eye on. Also from a purely 'Dad' perspective, the printing quality of the graphics on the toy are really poor. All in all, it should not be selling for the same price as the Brio version it replaced. Be warned!

The idea of a battery powered train is lovely but the reality of it with two boys who don't yet grasp the concept of turning things off is somewhat different. With new batteries percy is capable of pulling quite a few trucks, that is until he is used on carpet rather than the track. However, batteries don't last long and he spends more time waiting for new batteries than being played with. I would only recommend this train and in fact any battery powered train for older children.
