I bought this for a 10 year old who was delighted with it and asked to play straight away. Didn't take much setting up or explaining and it kept 3 girls (aged 5 to 10) amused for about an hour. I'm not sure if they painted or stuck the stickers on but they made lovely little fridge magnets and paper weights (though they are quite small)they could keep.only criticism is that 3 of the 12 clear glass pebbles were a bit flawed and irregular shape which ruined it a bit.

This is great as long as it doesn't come into contact with water. Much like a Mogwai (Gremlins), when in contact with water the fun stops and ink just covers everything. We have a ruined kitchen table as a result and I do accept that there is a warning on the packaging stating that ink may run if it comes into contact with water but anyone with children will know that accidents can (and more often than not, do) happen. Unfortunately the ink isn't wipe off either, when in contact with wood it acts like stain and we have a beautiful pattern on our kitchen table. Great idea just a shame about the flaws but if you're sure you're able to keep children under constant supervision when playing with it then great, just be aware!

This is a good educational toy with easy to follow instructions for setting up circuits. The connections are robust as they are based on magnets - easy for a child to construct and pull apart. My only quibble is the scientific explanations which are too difficult for a 7-8 year old. It needs a simple description/glossary for each component with uses within a circuit followed by the more complicated description. Relies therefore on parental help - pretty non-existent in my household!

One engineer's symbol (light) is inconsistent.

My daughter begged and begged me to buy her this. As soon as she got it we had problems. The on/off button kept sticking - ruining finished pictures as she tried to press it to stop at a particular loop on for it to skid across the page or react slowly and carry on drawing a bit further. Also, the pens are cheap and dry up very quickly. Trying to find replacement ones that fit well enough that the tip touches the paper evenly to draw a complete pattern is hard. The dials do not have simple explanations making the result random. Great if you want a random pattern but not great for remembering and repeating specific patterns. The pattern size is also a pain. I think the idea of coloured glue and googly eyes appealed to him most. Kept him engaged and entertained for ages. Exellent rainy day project.
