Lego kick off their 2008 releases from The Clone Wars movie with the excellent Republic Attack Gunship. These were also seen in Attack Of The Clones but this kit has been updated from the original #7163 Republic Gunship from 2002 with better construction, nicer detailing, more features and a more accurate colour scheme. This is a great version of the Gunship and it comes loaded with features.
Each cockpit canopy hinges open. The two front cannons rotate a full 360 degrees and across as well. There are doors to each side of the compartment below the cockpit which hinge up and contain a Clone Skimmer vehicle inside. I have to admit that I found this rather fun. I bought it for my little girl, who has outgrown her duplo bricks. You can make allsorts with it (literally, if you are that way inclined!) and it also comes with a guide to a load of suggested models.

I ignored the guide book and built my girl a car. You get a few wheels etc so it can actually be pushed around. I wish my parents had got me this sort of stuff when I was a kid. I got handmedowns though, with all the good pieces already lost.

Um, enough about me. My daughter loves it. The only slight criticism is that the supplied baseplate is a bit small. That really is a minor quibble though. There is an awful lot of lego in this box.

LEGO Star Wars 6211: Imperial Star Destroyer

My son enjoyed patiently building this model over 4 days at Christmas but found that every time he wanted to play with the model it fell apart as its base is not strong enough to support the model and the engines stick out below the base so they fall off every time it is put down. Finally after months of frustration we contacted Lego who supplied some extra bricks to try and stabilise the base (a known problem obviously) but that didn't work so we returned it. A great model for adults but simply not suitable for playing with - don't waste the money for kids.
