I bought Alan Bennett's books on tape for my mother. She used to listen to them in bed at night, lying in the dark as Bennett's gentle, querulous voice described the minutiae of his family life in all its banal detail, illuminated by his wonderful observation and humour. Any one of his sentences will raise a smile. A whole book's-worth leaves you glowing with a feeling that all of our lives are equally full of this richness. How could they not be, when Bennett has found so much in what appears to be such a constrained and circumscribed world? He is indeed a national institution and we are fortunate that his voice on tape is perfectly equal to the poignancy and intimacy of his writing.

Its been remarked that no longer finding derek and clive funny is an indication of one's passage into the adult world.If this is correct I am pleased to continue my adolescence indefinately. After hearing this collection of dialogues, opening a pot of loganberry ( or indeed any) jam will never be the same again. Cubicles too assume a particular resonance and will demand that little extra consideration upon entrance.
When the grins dry up, adolescence may well have been breached,but you will have been welcomed to the world of senility, a far more charmless experience.

This is probably one of the best soundtracks to any film I've heard. It added perfectly to each moment in the film, but stands up in it's own right as a excellent collection of tracks. This is a great album to kick back to whilst reading, or chilling on lazy Sunday afternoons and if you loved the film, this album will not disappoint.

I love the film. I love the music and love most of this album. Some tracks seem a bit strange such as the second one which is why I was a bit choosy as to which ones went onto my MP3 player. The main theme is haunting and deffinitely the best, the ceilidh music less memorable. All in all though this is a good soundtrack album. If only I could get hold of the film on DVD I would be very happy.

I live in the U.S., and have not been able to see the show, but I'm a big Ruthie Henshall fan, so have read a lot about it and have heard clips of a few songs. The music is beautiful, and the songs are heart-wrenching. It's especially helpful to have the printed lyrics, to understand what's going on and the emotion behind it. I love it!

I have just listened to the cd and it is fantastic. It doesn't matter if you are a "python" lover or not. Fantastic song writing, arrangements, great vocal performances and the production on this cd is first class. Tim Curry is as always delivering a great vocal performance, as are the rest of the cast. It is brilliant. Buy it, you wont be dissapointed!

I was a fan of the original radio series of HHGTTG and I was delighted to discover these CDs. This is a great follow-on from the first series, with even more sublimely outrageous scenarios as Zaphod survives the Total Perspective Vortex and Arthur discovers the remains of a civilisation based entirely on shoe-shops. There is no better way to pass a long car jorney - my kids love these CDs, and you can listen to them again and again. When Rula Lenska appeared on Celebrity Big Brother my boys knew exactly who she was - Lintilla (and her millions of clones). Luckily for Rula there was no Allitnil in the CBB house or she would have been neutralised instantly.......

I was surprised when I first listened to this tape. I was expecting a traditional Agatha Christie type format in the manner I was used to hearing. The three stories have been very much updated in terms of the setting of the stories and the language and general setting of the plots. This does not in any way detract from the enjoyment, rather it enhances the quality of the tales, indicating that the original format transfers very easily to a more up to date setting. The acting in all the stories is excellent, and the plots take a very interesting and unexpected turn, particularly towards the end, which is of course what one would expect from the author. buy this fantastic just love the film the music buy them both easyryder is one of my favourite films of all time aswell as quadroophenia,the blues brothers,the rocky horror picture show lol cool film,amadaous,misery etc well buy this fab soundtrack the quadrophenia soundtrack the original one is fantastic too!!
