I had never experienced Sweeney Todd before this film came along. As a fan of musicals, the actors Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter and the director Tim Burton, I was bound to enjoy the film. What I did not expect, was to enjoy it so much. I am sure I would never have gone to see the musical on stage, having not seen this film first. I now look forward to the experience with pleasure.

I enjoy soundtracks of musicals almost as much as the real thing, and this did not disappoint, a fact I shall be relishing in for the next few months for sure, as I get to know the tracks as well as other favourites such as The Phantom of the Opera and Wicked.

I would recommend this to virtually anyone.

One of the many strengths of Ashes To Ashes, along with its predecessor Life On Mars, is the use of music from the period in which the drama is set, perfectly capturing the 'feel' of that moment in time and giving extra impact and meaning to the action on the screen. The music on the soundtrack ranges from hits that are still very well known today such as Duran Duran's 'Girls On Film' and 'Let's Stick Together' by Bryan Ferry to songs that may not have been familiar to some of the Ashes To Ashes audience but have been a real pleasure to discover, such as the fabulous 'Staring At The Rude Boys' by The Ruts. This album is a rarity in modern soundtracks - it doesn't incorporate any "inspired by" tracks in place of the music from the film that made you buy the album in the first place.
Bill Conti's music is cool and classy, blends of soulful jazz, carribean music and lounge style tunes. It also includes original recordings of "sinnerman" by Nina Simone - a masterpiece in its own right, and Sting's version of "windmills of my mind" which is an intelligent revisioning of the 1960s original.
This is the sort of album one could play at a dinner party or quietly with a glass of single malt. The Wasis Diop track is a masterpiece which may well lead you to some of his other albums the eponymous "Everything... is never quite enough" or "No Sant" are two ... Read More:

I bought this on a whim, just out of interest really, and didn't expect that I'd go back for repeated listens. On the one hand the score is quite predictably "Hollywood blockbuster"-ish with lots of big drums, urgent marcato strings and dark industrial synth sounds. But you get past that, and the vision of the score becomes clearer over repeated listens, and I began to find it a very satisfying piece of work, and as an album, feel that the narrative and coherence works really well: the album flows seamlessly. Recommended for children of darkness everywhere.

On a different note, some reviewers commented that the album leaves off some of the score - but the CD comes in at 73 minutes, so you can't really complain that you don't get your money's worth. ... Read More:

This cast recording has Jason Donovan as Joseph and is none the worse for it. Those familiar with Donovan's chart hits might be surprised with how good his performance is here. Linzi Hateley is superb as the narrator and the rest of the cast ably support her. This collection comes with a booklet with all the lyrics which is great if you're the sort who likes to sing along! So, if you enjoy musicals and particularly if you're watching the current search for a Joseph, this is the CD for you!

as the old saying goes{i may not know art but i know what i like}. i may not be an expert on spanish classical guitar music but this cd is excellent. track 5 disc 1 is 10 minutes of heaven.you may recognise it as the music from the film el cid.there are 1 or 2 tracks that dont quite hit the mark but mostly this is a fantastic compilation album and will satisfy most peoples needs. just relax with a bottle of rioja,turn off your phone and dont answer the door bell. you will be transported back to that little secret tapas bar that only you and your loved one know about. the sevilla feria 05 is where it takes us.

When I first saw the film I thought it was a great movie and loved the music in it!! I have now been lucky enough to see the Musical in the West End of London - and, in my opinion, it is twice as good as the film!!... The show is non stop tapping from beginning to end with great acting and superb music!! The music is fresh and vibrant, funny and emotional and just great to listen to again and again!!

As soon as the CD became available, I bought it and began listening to it straight away!! I have to agree with other comments made that it just grows and grows and grows on you. Any one who loves the film will love the CD from the Musical version.

I am a huge fan of Lion King since I was young, but only recently had the chance to catch the Lion King: Musical at Lyceum London. I already heard the good reviews from friends and colleagues, but nothing can prepare you for this experience! I have never really been a huge fan of musicals, but if there's one musical you ever catch, make sure it's this. Breathtaking sets and costumes, fantastic acting, powerful music and vocals, awe-inspiring coordination, choreography and directing are just some amazing elements of this musical. This leads me to the life of any musical...the songs. The original Lion King's songs are already classics in any standards (winning the Oscars, Golden Globes and what not)...but here, reinvented and given a breath of fresh air...it's a different ...
