James Morrison reminds me of Terence Trent Derby with his distinctive vocals and cut down style,very few musical instruments,often just acoustic guitar and drums.Echoes of Stevie Wonder and chords and melodies that have a passing resemblance to other artists' songs complete the mix.I really like this album but it wasn't one that i liked first time of hearing.It's an album you need to play and let it grow on you.It's a little raw and naive in places and a little like a live recording of a busker on a city street corner.No bells and whistles,just a guy relying and believing in his talent.This gives it some originality and credit to James Morrison on producing a stunning album that may not be for everyone but will be enjoyed by most.Recommended.

when u just want to relax in the bath, take 5 mins from a stressed day this is the album you should choose.

Great original under-rated band and song-writer, buy this if you're quite new to their unique sound and then splash out on the individual fantastic CDs, then try the Travelling Wilburys!

After reading some mediocre reviews of this album I was shocked when I finally heard it and it turned out that I really enjoyed listening to it. It's clearly a step away from the first album, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This album has much more of blues, kind of Nashville Skyline-era Bob Dylan, feel to it, and I personally think that their vocals work much better together here, whereas the first album often felt like one or other of the vocal tracks had simply been 'tagged on'.

All of the tracks on this album seem to gel together very well, and although there aren't really any stand-out 'single' type tracks, I do not think that this is a bad thing at all.

So here we go, the second album from Black Stone Cherry is here, and it's been worth the wait.
Southern Rock has never sounded so fresh and contemporary, killer guitar lines, powerful vocals and improved songwriting all contribute here to a band rapidly on the rise.
Things don't really get much better than album opener "Blind Man" which believe me is a good thing, because this song is easily one of the best rock songs I've heard this year.
The Ballad "Things my father said" again fits in beautifully, its a tearful reflection on one's dad who has passed away.
It's a shame a band like this is not very well known, by that I mean the casual music listener, because it really is a quality album.

HAVING JUST BOUGHT THIS. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THE TRACKS WERE RE-MASTERED FROM THE ORIGINALS (WITH THE HELP OF MORRISSEY ? ?)
THEN WHO WAS THE PILLOCK THAT CHOPPED THE FULL FADE OFF "THAT JOKE ISN'T FUNNY ANYMORE" BUT LEFT THE FULL TIMING ON THE SLEEVE????
ANOTHER BRILLIANT OPPORTUNITY WASTED....
MORRISSEY AND WARNER BROTHERS.........HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME!!!

The Trick To Life

I really like the whimsical, slightly retro, ELO-inspired sound these lads create. I loved Goodbye Mr A and I liked Worried About Ray as singles so I was intrigued as to what the rest of the album would sound like.

The album as a whole is good, but not great. There are no other tracks which stand out to me, and it sounds rather generic, like a cross between ELO and The Feeling, which should be good, but this album does not really excite or inspire me, despite it being listenable.

Following the superb debut album `Back to Bedlam' was never going to be easy for James Blunt but this album, originally released just over a year ago was an excellent effort. Songs like the compulsive `1973' and the moving ballads `Same Mistake' and `Carry you Home' are the standout tracks. However, scratch below the surface and there are more classic James Blunt songs lurking. `One of the brightest Stars' is a truly moving piece whilst the softly starting `I really want you' (here presented in a vastly superior `radio' mix which includes added instrumentation) grabs your brain and you just can't stop humming it. `Annie' is co-written by Jimmy Hogarth (he, who is `Jimmy' in `So long Jimmy' from `Back to Bedlam') and along with `Give me some love' is one of the two riff based songs ... The Best of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac

How highly do I rate Peter Green(baum)? Well put it this way, at his peak he was at least as good as anyone that has EVER picked up an axe, plus he had the ability to write songs that still sound amazing thirty years later. So how good is this as a testament to his lost talent? Well, about as good as it could be given his early crack-up and losing his "magic stick." Tragedy really. A far bigger loss than Syd Barrett was to the Pink Floyd.

Here we have classics and filler in equal numbers. To be frank the blues pastiche (not all written by Green) was ho-hum at the time and is skip material here. The sixties recording time was shorter and there are even a few bum notes that should not be there.
