I made a beeline to see Duke at Guilfest 2007 having seen him on Jools Holland. They were fantastic live, and Chip on percussion with Duke was a great show. I still cannot believe they have not broken through to a bigger audience. This album is superb. If I was to compare to another I would suggest hints of early Billy Joel, but with an Ulster twang...

I bought this hoping it had some different mixes of the Congos best album, but it seems to have been mastered at a slightly faster speed than the edition on Blood & Fire [which has more & longer tracks]. VP should pay attention to details like that if they want to match the other B&F edition [which also has bonbus tracks included]

This Tighten-Up compilation will put a smile on your face this summer, and might even make you think the sun is shining.
There is a definite progression to be heard as the tracks draw from the original eight lps in the series.
Reggae is still a relatively new concept in the first tracks, having just taken over from the slower rock-steady style in the early sixties. So the first few numbers are very R&B-like. Half way through the first disc the familiar bass thump is there and you know you're not in Kansas anymore.
I am a big fan of unlikely Reggae covers and there are some gems here. The theme from Shaft had me grinning from ear to ear. Bridge Over Troubled Water is pretty good as well.

Excellent album much overlooked because of the title track. Some of the extras are excellent and be you skin or not this is an album which'll enhance you reggae collection. Come on get "Stompin'"

Probably the best album I own of any genre! It's actually two albums: Marcus Garvey, and Garvey's Ghost, which is a dub remix of Marcus Garvey. It's so good, I can't really think of anything else to say: words don't do it justice!

King Tubby pioneered dub reggae and so left his mark on much of today's music.
There's hundreds of King Tubby CDs out there, some of them very dodgy packages featuring tired rythmns that somebody once waved in the general direction of Tubbs. A lot of them have been nowhere near King Tubby's mixing skills. This one is different.
There's a vast selection of tracks from some of his best known work such as "Roots of Dub" and "Meets the Upsetter at the Grass Roots of Dub". Much of this is King Tubby in his prime.
Fans will already have much if this elsewhere, but there are a few gems that were new to me. For newcomers to dub, this is probably the best possible introduction. Bargain priced, over 3 hours of music, good mastering and ... Read More:

Like many Putumayo compilations, the tracks here are a well-chosen collection of top-quality material from local artists. However, with all of Latin America to choose from, the Putumayo people have outdone themselves this time. Every track is a superb piece of atmospheric down-tempo pop with a rich Latin flavour. It's one of the very few albums I can't imagine every getting sick of - perfect as background music and also well worthy of more attentive listening. If you like modern Latin music and only ever buy one Putumayo compilation (and I've bought lots) get this.

This is some of the most soothing reggae you're likely to hear ( sort of 'night nurse' ( Greg Isaacs ) like in a way ) and yet has the menacing rhythm of the slaver british system skanking in the backyard.
If you want to chill to intelligent music not for de babylon people. This is the one for you, true; sticks to the soul like glue. Harmony mon !
