This is the best ever 80s collection, For the amount of songs you can get for about more or less 10 pounds, you get plenty of value for money. Combined together with the second volume, the collection becomes even better.
Some of the songs may not be familiar to UK listener as they may be predominantly American hit singles and vice versa. The only reason why I give this collection 4.5 stars is that it doesn't includes lyrics, liner notes or even chart positions but maybe that would be too much to ask for. However, I don't know why relax by FGTH is repeated in both collections which is a waste of money. Most of all, it would have been great to
include American artists signed to EMI affliated labels such as the Motels (Only The Lonely) ... Read More:

Maxi Priest burst onto the reggae scene in 1984 and he was an instant success for UK reggae fans. Everything he did topped the reggae charts but by 1990 he reached no.1 in the US Billboard 100 with the hit "Close To You". He was now an international superstar. All his hits are here so it's a great album if you are completing your CD collection. It also features collaborations with artists such as Shabba Ranks, Tiger, Beres Hammond and Aswad. Buy this to remember how good things were before dancehall took over. (Not that there's anything wrong with dancehall reggae!)
Just a beautiful album, stills makes me smile and lifts my spirits the same as it did nearly 30 years ago. An essential purchase for any serious music lover.

As an adult it's a change to listen to something that's slightly different from your normal kids music but as a reggae fan its's utter tosh. There are far far better tracks out there. Save your money & get your kids to listen to some proper music.I can't believe that some of the biggest names in reggae stooped so low

Looks like I found Ms Brown along a different path from others here. A local pub singer sang Stop! one night and I couldn't remember who did it. The only place I knew Sam from was as one of Pink Floyds backing vocalists on The Pulse tour, where she did Clare Torry proud, and the Dave Gilmour Meltdown DVD (go get!!). Unfortunately I'm about 20yrs too late then, but believe me that makes no difference to the appreciation of this album. It's a timeless introduction to one of Britains best female vocalists, perhaps an English Maggie Bell!
Although it was Stop! that brought me to the album, I don't think it's the best track, maybe an easy 2nd. Premier moment for me is Ball and Chain, a superb syncopated funk track. Play it in the car, try to stop ... Read More:

The problems i had in deliberating over whether to part my hard earned cash were 2 fold. a) this is a trojan compilation which means (for the most part) too little wheat and too much chaff. b)the last don letts comp on heavenly jukebox had some classics (most of which i had) but the supporting cast were somewhat turgid.
The quality of this album came as a big surprise for amongst the reggae staples: 'wear you to the ball','54/46', 'man next door'etc... were some stone cold classics from the rocker's era, that i was amazed had never been plundered by the legions of reggae compilers before: 'mistry babylon', 'burn babylon', 'rockers no crackers' are in my opinion some of the best reggae ever committed to wax - totally sublime and backed by quality ... Since forming out of the ashes of Operation Ivy in 1991, Rancid has risen from a local ska punk group on the Gillman Street scene to one of the most recognizable groups alongside fellow groups like Green Day and The Offspring.
Let's Go is the second record to be released and marks the first recording as a four piece with ex UK-Sub Lars Frederickson. It suprising to hear the differences between Let's Go and the follow-up And Out Come The Wolves... as this sounds much more rawer and energetic.
Each track either lasts under or just over the two minute mark, with only a few nearly reaching the three minute point. At 23 tracks in total, this is more of an album that sounds breathtaking when its listened from start to finish. There ... Read More:
