I was still quite young when the disco craze hit the world, certainly way too young to enjoy what was going on in nightclubs, not too young to enjoy the music though! My favourites at the time were undoubtedly this band. I recall dancing to all the hits at school disco's and once at a very magical evening trip to a local ice rink disco, with the youth club. But as well as stirring memories of the the late 70's and early 80's revisiting these tracks creates thoughts of just how stylisticly variable, vocally accomplished and downright excellent this band was! They deserved a lot more credit way back when and they do know. I defy you not to want to dance like crazy to "use it up" and "back to my roots" and I absolutley defy you to listen ... Read More:

As you know this is one of the greatest albums of all time, given a new lease of life - remastered - with new booklet and fantastic new versions of the songs.
Fergie joins Michael on Beat It which has been remixed and extra percusion and guitars on it. Bass lines and strings etc have been moved around and it has a new ending.
Billie jean is a remix by Kanye West. Not my favourite remix - I think Tony Morans was the best. the songs starts with the bridge and is given new beats and the track has re dubs of strings and taken new parts of the song and moved them back.
the girl is mine with Akon - again is given a new production and here Michael re does all the vocals and Paul's are removed. Again the ... Read More:

As you can see most of the songs i like apart from that's what it does. I do really like this album but it is missing a certain something. I can't wait 4 his new album year of the gentleman,i think this album is going to be his best yet. I also felt the same with rihanna's albums, her first album was great but her second one wasn't as good, but her third one was her best. I still feel you need this album in your record collection.

For too long disco compilations have focused solely on rehashing the same classics over and over again.
Well, this collection does it differently: it puts the fun back into disco by picking out all the tunes that you have long forgotten about, all those you remember as being vaguely embarrassing, and then sprinkles in a strong selection of the classics for those who have never bought a disco collection before. It'll keep you on the dance floor and put a huge smile on your face.
As the icing on the cake, it unearths the Space Disco genre! Of course, Spacer has long been recognised as a classic disco song, being output from The Chic Organisation, but you can't fail to smile (and more importantly dance) when you hear Automatic Lover or the ... Read More:

The song Flashdance is of course part of musical history now, so of course you want it...is the album from which it came a gold-mine of similar hits...? Well, nearly. There are some great songs here, in fact I'd buy the album alone for the two very strange tracks "He's A Dream" by Shandi and "Manhunt" by Karen Kamon" which are SOOOO 80's you just have to love them. Then there are two tracks by major artists (Donna Summer and Laura Branigan) that don't appear on any other album by them (as far as I know). Both pretty good, unusual productions. The rest of the album is made up of drippy ballads and the WORST power-pop track you will ever hear - "Seduce Me Tonight" by Cycle V (who???). And I'm sorry, but even the celebrated track "Maniac" ... Read More:

Although not as widely popular in the U.S. as in England, 5 Star managed to score several hits. Most U.S. audiences first became aware of them from "All Fall Down", which hit the R&B and dance charts. "Can't Wait Another Minute" and "If I Say Yes" are prime examples of Brit-Pop at it's finest. Why they never became super huge here is still a mystery.

In my opinion, no other artist could have come out with an album like this, because this album pretty much pushed every boundary, and broke every rule, and was such a stark contrast to her debut, to Christina this album was about coming out, and being herself instead of the `fake' & `forced' bubblegum pop star she was on the first album, although there is plenty of darkness on this album, it still speaks true of Christina, and she certainly doesn't hold anything back.
The 1: 39 intro sets the mood & atmosphere for the album, with snippets of news reports and some brief singing, primarily about Christina's transition from bubblegum pop princess to the independent diva, then we go into the independent, female liberation anthem `Can't Hold Us Down' were Christina is accompanied ... If you're reading this review and thinking about buying this album stop reading this review and get your charge card out. This is, bar none, the best compilation album I've ever come across. I'm shamed to admit I was unfamiliar with many of the tracks and artists until I saw the film. In hindsight I now understand the magnitude of the gaping whole this was in the development of my muscial appreciation. A vista of 70's soul-funk really opened up for me post-Jackie-Brown.
