It's a brave band that tries to recreate that mid-90s indie sound. Infact, if you think back to recent years, most bands would rather hark back to the 80s, so when Alphabeat came along, basically trying to reproduce the feel of 90s Scandanavian indie (which let's face it, gave us brilliant bands like the Wannadies and the Cardigans), I have to admit I was very excited.

Thankfully, the album lives up to the obvious hype it generates. 'Fascination' could easily have been a Wannadies song, right down to the slightly punky 'the word is on your lips' chant in the middle. 'Boyfriend' is very reminiscent of the Cardigans around the time of Lovefool, and Stine's voice is just lush. Elsewhere, 'What is Happening' sounds a bit like Blur collaborating ... Read More:

One Of The Boys

Katy Perry is a breath of fresh air, she doesn't try to set a positive example for her younger fans & she loves provoking the media & making a story (a.k.a claiming that she wanted to kiss Miley Cyrus.)
One Of The Boys is a prime example of pop at its best.
Over the summer pretty much everyone fell in love with I Kissed A Girl a fun track that would make even the most strait-laced person smile.
For me the best songs on the track are I Kissed A Girl, Ur So Gay & Hot n' Cold. Ur So Gay is pretty much Katy poking fun at a metrosexual ex although I personally don't agree with the use of the word gay to describe anyone but a homosexual (they're not all feminine, people!) but the lyrics are great; 'your so sad you should buy a ... Hung in there with the first. However,this album has no artistic merit whatsover!! The worst thing any adult could do is take this in their car on a long journey - Be warned!!

Will Martin has a very natural, smooth, calming, and perfect pitch voice!----There is bit of New Zealand 'flavor' in this album which I like very much.----This is simply a great album to own. We do not have quite this kind of 'calm' classical crossover in the U.S. anymore, and that is too bad I think.----I guess what I mean is that it is not 'overproduced', and very human!!!----Enjoy!

Heard great things about this album over some period of time before I bought it, heard Gone, gone, gone and thought Hmmmmm, I'd give it a go.....

Can't say much more than I think it's just a mediocre musical outing by two accomplished performers.

It's not the electric mix of eclectic styles that people make it out to be, it's not a ground-breaking album, it's never going to be in my top ten fave albums [or any list of fave albums].

It is a raggle-taggle collection of songs, some a bit too similar to its partners on the album to make it an overall half-decent listen, it is performed reasonably well, but it lacks any dynamic or soul......all in all not my cup of tea.

Cilmi has a characterful voice, but her album is let down by poor quality control. 'Sweet About Me' is undeniably great, and the ballad 'Safer' is well above average, but much of the rest seems like autopilot Xenomania to me - too many tracks sound like the ones Girls Aloud left in the wreckage after a ram-raid on the studio. The bonus cover of 'Echo Beach', a proper song with a memorable tune, only shows up the fluffy filler that precedes it.

I don't deny that this young girl has a nice voice, albeit not the greatest, but I cannot listen to this album the whole way through. I loved Chasing Pavements, but despite some OK tracks nothing else stands out, and it could all have been so much better. First and foremost, it's so depressing. I've tried a few times but I find it hard to listen to the whole album without either falling asleep or wanting to cut my wrists. Also, as I said she has a nice voice, but it might be even nicer if I could understand anything she's singing. Thank God there's lyrics in the booklet. And finally, the instruments. Adele really needs to get much more experience playing guitar as it ranges from mediocre to just awful, and this shows particularly on Best For Last.

I have "discovered" Bonamassa with this album and I have been totally impressed and seduced. It is a top mix of rock, acoustic, blues, etc, with good vocals and exceptional guitar that sounds like ... his own style but tinted with Beck (intro to "Django"), Clapton, even BB King at times ... basically all the good influences.
So after getting this I bought all his previous CD's and in the end, this one live album remains my favourite. You could be satisfied with this one only. Great guy, who succeeds in standing out in the overcrowded "blues rock guitar" arena.

as a fan of mogwai for years now i always anticipate their albums release. although the cover scares me alot i still had no hesitation in buying it. this album, simply, is the best mogwai release, it is perfect in every single way. every single track on this album is fantastic, as another reviewer said there is no track that you would want to skip. im jim morrison, im dead goes on par with killing all the flies as my favorite mogwai song of all time, and there are other songs on this album that near the top of that list.

each song is a masterpiece in composition, phrasing and execution and each song delivers beautiful moments. sometimes in the past i have been put off by some of the heavier moments in mogwai songs, but they have honed the balance between the heavy ... Read More:
