Excellent voices overpowered by incongruous orchestral accompaniment. The richness of the voices was spoiled for one who wants a male voice choir to be just that. This cd does more than it says on the tin, unfortunately.

I bought this album on the strength of Lights Out, and am really pleased with it. I would give it five stars but there are maybe 3 or 4 weak tracks but I don't mind that. I would rather have 8 quality fresh experimental tunes and 3 or 4 that miss the mark, than 12 tracks of boring averageness.
For less than a fiver it's a bargain, just take a chance and get it.
'You'll find a way' is brilliant and my current pick of the bunch but I tend to change my mind as I become more familiar with albums - in a month I may prefer a different track.

Agree with most of the reviews listed. If, like me, you went to Uni in the early 90's and have been a fan of that genre ever since you'll have almost grown up with Nick Bracegirdle's music and all the myriad offferings it inspired and spawned
From the days of saltwater to the excellent maddening crowds CD, his music has always evolved, always delivered and always impressed

When I listened to this CD I thought is was oddly one-dimensional and it was only when I looked at the reviews of others that I realised it was because the orchestral backing track is synthesised, which explains why there is a real lack of variation in tempo and dynamics. Also the chorus is clearly comprised of soloists, not proper chorus singers. And a couple of the songs seemed to be cut off a fraction of a second before the end. The actual solo parts are nicely sung, with good diction, and so justice is done to Gilbert, but certainly not to Sullivan. Having said that, this recording still brought a smile to my face because the songs are too delightful to be completely ruined and the selection is a good one.

I am gutted cos I have lost one of the CDs in this amazing double album. Even with one CD is is TOPS. My favorites are Lemar singing the Darkness Track, and James Blunt singing Lemar..... as I said Pure Gold!

I think this album is a transitional one for Sigur Ros. They've become a band that had a specific sound and they were no doubt aware that they needed to develop their style to avoid stagnation.
With their latest release there are clear signs that the band wanted to make a different kind of a record. The songs are shorter, more acoustic sounding and generally more upbeat. They've tried to rely less on tried and tested ways of working and moved towards spontaneity and improvisation.
At least half of the album sounds a little different for Sigur Ros especially with the single "Gobbledegook" with its tribal drumming, hand claps and chanting. A couple of the tracks almost border on indie pop which would have been very out of place on the ... Read More:

Ignore the miseries, this is a really good rockin' album. I have kind of mocked these guys for years - yet having heard this CD I am amazed how many of the tunes I actually know and really like. You'll probably be the same. What more can I say? It's cheap as chips. Give it a listen. Hell Yeh!!!!

WERE THE DC5 AS GOOD AS THE RECENT ARTICLES I HAVE READ SUGGEST?
WERE THEY THE NEXT BEST THING TO THE BEATLES AT THE TIME?
ER NO!! AS THIS RELEASE PROVES.
LIKE MANY I REMEMBER THE MAIN HITS, BITS AND PIECES, GLAD ALL OVER AND CATCH US IF YOU CAN, AND THEY WERE GREAT POP SONGS. BUT AFTER THAT I REMEMBER VERY LITTLE AND I DID GROW UP IN THE SIXTIES. THIS RELEASE PROVES WHY. IT CONTAINS A NUMBER OF AVERAGE COVER VERSIONS AND SOME MEDIOCRE ROCK AND ROLL COVERS THAT LACK THE PASSION OF THE REAL THING. THE SOUND IS AVERAGE, THE COVER IS TERRIBLE AND THERE IS A C.D. BOOKLET THAT PAYS HOMAGE TO DAVE CLARK, I.E. DAVE DID THIS, DAVE DID THAT, BUT PAYS LITTLE ATTENTION TO THE REST OF THE BAND. VERY LITTLE BAND HISTORY, NO RELEASE DATES AND NO U.K./U.S.A. CHART POSITIONS. ... Read More:
