An all time classic album, often imitated, but never approached let alone surpassed. Zack's vocals are incredibly emotional, and the sheer tightness and funking musicality of the band is staggering (and that comes from a guy whos played in bands for 15 years himself.)
I loved this album to death fifteen years ago. Yet, when im teaching kids today and i put it on for them, it seems just as powerful for them as it was for me back then. Stunning.

Estelle has a good voice no doubt about it and American Boy is one of the songs of the summer. Sadly, such elements have failed to contribute to a memorable album which feels like a rushed cash in with production values so tired, you can ever hear them yawn!
American Boy sounded really fresh with a brilliant use of horns but the rest of the album is just derivative R&B that could have been produced by any female artist within the genre. Estelle struggles to stamp her own identity on any of the tracks and she just sounds like a vocalist singing someone else's work. Generally there is little passion and soul in this, I found myself barely noticing any differences between tracks. As a result, it feels more like lounge music than anything else. ... Read More:

A crafted set of songs by these three excellent musicians who all gel in each others company. Woomble is the star, taking nearly all the lead vocals but great musicianship throughout.

I will admit I was originally determined to hate Girls Aloud because I am against reality TV shows but song after song I found myself unable to stop listening. Now I am a huge fan and bought the Greatest Hits as I had not previously bought a Girls Aloud album. Every track makes me want to dance and sing into my hairdryer. My personal favourite are Long Hot Summer, Wake Me Up, Something Kinda Ooh and the unreleased track Money with it's hilarious lyrics. The girls lyrics are undeniably witty and sharp and nothing if not bold on all of their singles.
I play this CD whenever I am getting ready for a night out, Something Kinda Ooh is always the final track I play as it is my favourite party mood song. I have also found myself beginning to like some of the songs ... Read More:

I have to agree with the writer of the 1-star review that the actress who plays Elphaba on Broadway (and is featured on the cd) definitely has a disappointing voice compared to the West End actress. However, I do think that the actors playing Glinda and the Wizard, in contrast, have a better voice on Broadway, compensating a little for Elpahaba. I really do hope that a West End version of this cd will become available at some point.

At first I was skeptical of the whole Johnny Cash is a great musician/songwriter, and thought it was oldie country music for the oldies to reminisce about, and say how they never make music like they used to; that was until I was given this CD to try after seeing the film based upon his life.
Johnny Cash is without doubt a very clever songwriter/commentator with catchy 2-3min songs that reveal a story with very poignant and/or witty poetry set to music you'll hum along to after very few listens. Clear examples of this can be found in songs such as 'A boy named Sue' and 'San Quentin.'
This album captures the highlights of his music career from the early songs right to the covers of modern artists - which he covers in his 'Cash sound' that I feel are better than the ... Read More:

This really is a fantastic double live album - beautiful package, and the extensive liner notes are an interesting read - a really nice supplement to the music. Even if you are familiar with the Buena Vista story, the extra info really brings home how historic the appearance of all these Cuban musicians at Carnegie Hall really was.
The recording is exuberant and really captures the atmosphere, great musicianship and spirit of the event. I can't recommend this highly enough.....if you loved the original BVSC album you will find something new to appreciate in these live performances!
