Seen them on stage, where the saxophonist forgot his instrument and played on a borrowed one, A real impressive performance, each musician as good as the other. Bought the CD which was even better (better saxaphone!). The music stays with you, fills you, lifts you up.

I haven't come on here to criticise Katie Melua.I recently heard a splendid version of her's covering Leonard Cohen's ' In My Secret Life ' off one of her other albums.
I have eclectic tastes in music and sometimes I don't mind this type of stuff. She can certainly deliver a song and she has quite a distinctive voice.OK so we all know about Mike Batt but don't let that put you off buying this. This album is definately not taxing on the brain and is without a doubt easy on the ear but sometimes that is just what is required.' 9 Million Bicycles..' is such a catchy tune.Katie Melua is alright with me.

I was so looking forward to this, based on the radio advertising that I had heard. But when it arrived I could not have been more disappointed. The songs that were heard on the radio, were basically all the best ones, the rest of the album was rubbish. I love jazz but this album is not relaxing or enjoyable and I would not recommend it.
Quite by chance I caught just three or four bars of the theme of "Autumn Leaves" on the radio. It was so obviously Miles, and at his very best. I immediately decided, on the basis of that brief snatch of melody, to try to get the CD. But it was not easy to run it down as, of course, the band was under the (nominal) leadership of Cannonball Adderley.
This is a wonderful CD with all players on top form and I heartily endorse what other reviewers have said. It is worth its modest price just for that exposition of the beautiful "Autumn Leaves" theme!

Whilst I have no argument with the music on this album, it's all great stuff, if you are hoping to hear the great man introducing each track, then think again "he's NOT there" and this is a great disappointment. I had expected from the album description that it would contain those wonderful insights that Bob Dylan is so good at when introducing the tracks, that's why I can only give it three stars.

Like the last reviewer, and many, many others, The Blues Brothers was a film I first watched when I was about 10 and it introduced me to a whole new world of music.
This soundtrack was the first record I ever owned and it is where I first heard a lot of artists that I may otherwise never of heard of, since I had only really listened to pop and ska before.
This is a great collection and younger people especially will find it it very educational. If you enjoy the soundtrack it would also be a good idea to look up some of the other artists featured in the film but not on the soundtrack, like Sam and Dave and John Lee Hooker.
A fun film and a fun soundtrack, try the other Blues Brothers recordings too, you won't regret it!

I have all three of Madeleine Peyroux's albums now having recently purchased this beauty. All through the album, you can tell the quality and the feeling in her vocal performance. I find it difficult to believe now that it took 8 years before Madeleine Peyroux became a household name with her second album "Careless Love" and not this one. Never mind. This is still a wonderful album.
This album is a launching pad for Madeleine Peyroux to launch from. Her singing style is very similar to that of Billie Holiday and Bessie Smith, the jazz and blues divas of their time. It hits off with "Walking After Midnight" and finishes off with a blues-fuelled "Lovesick Blues". The tracks inbetween are also of distinction including "Dreamland", the title track, a delicious ... I heard this album, whilst on holiday in Girona (Spain).
It is a must buy album. Even if you can't understand Spanish, she has a wonderful voice. It has a contemporary-jazzy sound without losing the traditional Espanic feeling. thanks for readind DaveyT.

I own several of MD's album - my personal favourite being Sketches of Spain. This album, which is rather dull, I made the mistake of buying on the basis of the track Rocker on a compilation. It's dificult to describe, but to me the sound is too undifferenciated to let the melodies and tune speak. It is an ambient album. Pleasant, but doesn't set the blood racing. Instead, buy in A Silent Way, Sketches... or Kind of Blue.....Or better yet by the Best of Blue Note Comp' - not a duff track on it

Clare Teal fans will probably pan me for this but having listened to most of her CDs and seen her live this really doesn't do it for me. She just changed record companies and it smacked of having to get something out quick. Sure there are some good tracks on here but the whole album doesn't fit together as well. Paridisi Carousel was a great album and this has good tracks like Get it on Sam and the cover of Moondance which stick in your mind but most of the rest didn't.
Take your time Clare with the next one, put more of your own stuff in it and I am sure you will be back on form.
