I bought this album when it came out, on vinyl. Neil Young had been only partly known to me - i tended to think "acoustic" and "folky", which were not the kind of words i was into at that age. John Peel said that "nothing before had prepared him for the magnificence of Zuma" or words to that effect. As a keen JP listener and admirer, i thought I'd give it a go. Fabulous! It was as rock-y and discordant in places as you could wish. The guitaring was a revelation. Great songs, love-it-or-hate-it voice/singing - which i did love. The acoustic numbers and gentler tracks were great songs too, and perfect to sing when you were having a drink with your mates. "I've been looking for a lover, but I haven't met her yet - she'll be nothing like i picture ... Read More:

It was pure luck for me to discover this band and I have Amazon's 'Other buyers bought' reference to thank for that. For such a young and upcoming band to produce an album such as this is remarkable.
Track 1 'Burn' gives a great intro to the CD and has its racey rock structure mingled with the grunge of the likes of 'Bush'and leads into 'Just Like You' which is probably the most commercial of all the tracks and probably appeals to the teenies more than late 40's like me!
Its when 'I hate everything about you' kicks in that you really appreciate the bands quality with its great outback guitar riffs, thumping bass and drum beat and angry hurt lyrics from Adam Gontier, whose vocals are superb! 'Home' is another great thumping ... Read More:

Before buying this album, I was familiar with the 'big' songs from it, however after a few listens i have come to appreciate the true raw talent behind it; suffice to say im very happy with the purchase!! the case was delivered with a crack however, which is not the first time from Amazon to me.

There's nothing on this DVD that you can't find on youtube to be honest.
And with Metallica launching there own youtube channel recently, all the videos on there are official, so you need not worry about Lars getting mad at you.

It just wouldn't be a Garbage release if it didn't come with a delay. Almost 3 years after a Best Of was announced, it finally saw the light of day earlier this year. Many fans speculated that the delay was the result of Warner putting their work in to make a comprehensive set for the fans - rumours of complete b-sides and music video collections, as well as a live CD/DVD box set began to surface. The end result can't help but leave any long-term Garbage fan under-whelmed and confused about the 3 year gap.
The bonus disc of remixes is, bar a few exceptions, a waste of a perfectly good blank CD that would have been better suited to home a selection of their 40-odd b-sides. There are occasionally some genuinely cool re-workings - namely U.N.K.L.E.'s 'The ... Read More:

I bought this album as it was the last one I needed to complete my collection and I was impressed with the video for "Since I Don't Have You".
Unfortunately after that song the album turns very bad indeed with another 11 songs to trawl through. I have tried many times but can't get to the end.
A highlight of the album is Axl's funny English accent on "Down On The Farm". I don't know what to make of the song but it's very funny. I thought Nazareth's "Hair Of The Dog" might be quite good as the Britny Fox version is excellent. Sadly again I was dissapointed and it is the worst of the three versions available. Duff also sings on the album a few times and his voice is just bad. I hate his voice. Axl's the singer not you. One last irritating aspect of this album is ... Read More:

The first album I've bought from amazon and what an amazing album it is (can I also say that the delivery was very efficient, arriving a day prematurely), Tim Mcilrath's vocals are as always brilliant, his vocal range is astonishing. The drums are furious as are the guitars. Basically if you're into melodic vocals over upbeat instrumentals then Rise Against are your band.

I got this album after The Black Parade and Three Cheers, and I would recommend that order for anyone only just entering the punk-rock world.
You can definitly tell it's their first album. As my dad put it, it's unpolished, and I really love that about the album. The lyrics are violent and harsh, but touching at the same time. Through both Bullets and Three cheers MCR use a doomed lovers theme. If you like that (like me), listen to "Early sunsets over monroeville", "Demolition lovers" and "Drowning Lessons". This album sounds dark but they're all really good songs.A momentous first album. You're gonna love it!

This was the time when the UK stood up and took notice of Athens' finest. Their bravery in issuing a mandolin led first single was regrettably offset by their foray into cheesy pop. 'Shiny Happy People' and 'Radio Song' aside, this is an excellent record that holds songs of great variety and boasts two of the best songs of that particular era in 'Losing My Religion' and a song so personal that Mr Stipe had to perform it with his back to the audience - 'Country Feedback'. They may have been thrust upon the UK market for all the wrong reasons (see cheesy pop reference above), but in this case the end very definitely justified the means.
