Is Great Expectations listening to the same CD as everyone else that has rightly given this CD 5 stars - he is correct in that you had to be there - and I was on many occasions and then later the inferior White Snake & Rainbow -as stated by many this is arguably the best live recording ever made - no contest as far as I'm concerned.- the interplay between Lord & Blackmore - and the pulsating rhythm section is incredible! Others can only aspire!

I read quite a bit in guitar mags etc about tis album, so I was keen to hear it. Got to say that I am disappinted. It lacks edge - the ideas seems diluted rather than concentrated, the songwriting is embarrassingly lame in places (that is, I don't want people to know I listen to songs with lyrics and musical cliches like these). Musically, it does not stand up against the new generation. And, like most if not all concept albums, the ambition is overcome by an inability to execute - it's very difficult to do a concept album. A pity because you can tell a lot of work has gone into this album. JP would have done better to focus on delivering 8 high quality tracks.

The Ultimate Collection

It has been difficult for some time to buy a Kinks compilation that truely represents how good a band they were.

For me, this collection does just that. The real advantage is the second disk which I, contrary to the previous reviewer, think is the main reason for buying this cd above any of the other alternatives.

In particular, the tracks David Watts, Dandy, Mr Pleasant, Where Have all the Good Times Gone?, Well Respected Man, Starstruck and Shangri La are all fantastic songs. Shangri La in particular is an overlooked gem.

If you are speculating whether to get a Kinks cd or not, then this should really be the place to make your first stop.

This album is brilliant,and although it sounds typical of its genre, it sounds unique and it does not sound boring or generic.

Instead, you can expect track after track of infectiously catchy, punchy, indie pop-rock with great instrumentals and vocals as well as well thought out lyrics.

You've undoubtly heard I Found Out. If you liked that song, you will like the rest of the album. There are no throwaway tracks on this album and each is as good as the rest.

After hearing Razorlights 2nd record and enjoying it at the time. I decided to buy this debut offering, and after hearing this record i decided to listen to razorlight again and i found out that it actually isn't that good, Johnny Borrell's lyrics are heavily influenced by Pete Doherty and Carl Barat formely of The Libertines. Unlike 2006's Razorlight which is trying to be a album with a U2 epic scope, but this album is trying and succeds to be a album full of Libertines influnced tunes about London nights and romance. The first Track Leave Me Alone isn't the greatest opening to an album, although it is catchy enough to be a decent opening to the album. Rock N Roll Lies was the first single Razorlight did and is a great first single that should have got higher in the charts ... Read More:

As the title of this review says this album is awful. The best song by a long way is Sick, Sick, Sick which I first heard them perform live on the TV and thought, "Well hopefully things will get better". QOTSA are all about the tunes and heavy tunes at that.

This album is missing something and that something is Nick Oliveri. The bass is non-existent. Yuck this is just terrible.

I loved all their previous albums, I love the Desert Sessions, I loved Kyuss. What has gone wrong? I hate this album and all QOTSA have become: bloated crap.

Don't buy this! Buy any of their other albums! If you have all their other albums still don't buy it! Spend your money on some Nebula or Fu Manchu or put it in the bank.

With its lurid fluorescent sleeve N.M.T.B. is one of rock `n' roll's greatest debut albums. Johnny Rotten's lyrics and sneering vocals fizz with youthful angst (`Liar', `Problems' and `No Feelings) and sizzle with rebellious messages (`God Save The Queen', `Anarchy In The UK' and `EMI'). On the mordant `Bodies', the terrace-chant taunt of `Seventeen' and the exhilarating `Holidays In The Sun' the Pistols make obvious their love of the simple, primal, effective three-chord rock which Chuck Berry, The Stooges and the New York Dolls produced. These songs are all tightly structured and well-considered; they never venture far beyond 180 seconds and are sharp and snappy in sentiment and expression.

Tenacious D

I find this album absolutely hilairious and the lyrics are random in a funny way. The guitar is ok but the quality of singing is not meaningful enough and Tenacious D should take out thos ear piercing notes in tribute etc.

I bought this when it was first released on vinyl and video...and it is just as impeccable now. One of the greatest tours from one of the greatest bands, this gig stands the test of time and countless....and I DO mean countless....viewings. Metal at its finest.

1980's 'The River' can probably be regarded as Bruce Springsteen's first move toward a more commercial sound. After years of sober epics punctuated by the occasional radio-friendly song, he turned out a stack of uptempo three-minute songs. Eight of the first nine tracks on this album are in that style. Far from being routine love songs, however, they feature Springsteen's vivid turn of phrase and odd storylines. On 'Sherry Darling', for instance, the subject threatens to throw his girlfriend's mother out of his car. The impassioned 'Jackson Cage' (well, his songs usually are impassioned) is a highlight, while 'Hungry Heart' is an obvious single, if a relatively unsuccessful one. Fans might balk at the gooey 'I Wanna Marry You', but the plaintive title track is a triumph.
