You could play a fully credible disco night armed with nothing more than these five cds. If a definitive chart was made of the 500 top tunes from the dance decade of 1975-1984 this set would claim an absolute minimum of 50 places.
One ill informed reviewer knocks legenary weekender tunes on CD3 as fillers and bemoans the lack of Abba, Bee Gees and Dexy's Midnight Runners. It's precisely that absence which makes this such a credible set. I already owned perhaps 80 or 90 of these tracks but the purchase was well worth it for Janice Macclain's Smack Dab in the Middle and then again for the huge grin that spread across my face when I heard Wikka Wrap again for the first time in twenty years.

this song is clearly the stand out track from the hard candy album and subsequent tour, and it is such a shame it charted so poorly in the uk singles chart. warners have got to take responsibility though, they don't bother with a maxi cd single, instead just opting for a 2 track cd single and this rather pointless picture disc that does not even feature a picture of the beautiful lady herself. there have been some outstanding photographs taken to support the release and promotion of the album and I am dismayed they choose to release this with graphics instead of using a gorgeous shot of madonna such as those used in this years issues of elle :-( AMAZING AMAZING song though - and the remixes are very well done

This is my least favourite 70's Bowie album. I'm not saying it's bad exactly, I just find it a lot weaker than his other offerings from the 70's. Coming straight after his masterpiece, Ziggy Stardust, it does seem inferior and the subsequent Diamond Dogs is one of my favourites. Opening song Watch That Man is very unremarkable, and the title track contains a very self-indulgent piano solo that I just find irritating. The final song, Lady Grinning Soul just doesn't do it for me, and the other tracks are merely 'ok'. It's not a bad Bowie album by any means, but I just find it very overrated, a much poorer version of Ziggy Stardust.

Worth getting in your library of CDs or Ipod.

is good yes? yes. like good that is nice. not like good like man wiv camera. no. not like him. maybe more songs on this one. more singing like guy from coldplay but not him someone else. some piano on it. It make you happy like good weather and freinds on television. not hollyoaks like on e4 when you get holloaks then friends and you want friends but on e4 and e4+1 you get hollyoaks. how is this?

Hide and Seek is literally the best song I have heard this year - brilliant use of a vocorder and a fantastic vocal performance. I've recently upgraded to a decent separates system on my stereo and this is the song to test it out too.

Really, really, beautiful.

The Love Album

This album is different to any of their others, as it seems to be a weird selection of solo performances by Shane and Mark (not complaining on the Mark point). Some of the tracks do mix the vocals, but in large part the the Cutie Blondes (their official names) are basically missing. Even when there are backing vocals by them, you can rarely even recognise their voices.

Having Mark singing, using more of his amazing potential (particularly on track 2) is fantastic to hear. His voice is effortless and has a sense of soul that I don't think Shane's does, however great. So again, not complaining here. It is odd though that the album is solo/duo/band/hint of 'boyband'. I clocked a bit of a buzz in the run-up to the release of the LP so I decided to check it out in the hope that it might be the next Timeless, Black Secret Technology or Untrue. Sadly it isn't - doesn't even come close - but there again, comparison with the aforementioned classics isn't really fair as this record's coming from a completely different angle - a cheerier, more enthusiastically muso angle. The vibe of "Syncopated City" certainly isn't reflected in the track titles. If Clifford Price made a tune called "All Hell is Breaking Loose" you'd expect it to sound just like its title. Ditto "Attack Ships on Fire". In fact both of these tracks have a big-band, cinematic feel not unlike the Propellerheads (not really my cup of tea). this was a big favourite of mine, growing up in the 80's and early 90's. this album is by far the best reggae collection of ub40's. i also bought the ub40 dvd which has a few others which do not feature on the collection. if you want relaxing, soul trippin music this summer, then i suggest this album. totally superb.

this is a must for anyone who not only likes ub40 but enjoyed the 80's and its music.

This was the first album I ever bought and thirty years later I still think it is excelent. It includes two classic Abba number one singles (Take a Chance On Me and Name of The Game), but apart from those every track is pure Abba gold. 'Eagle' sees Abba in full grown up mood and the instrumentation is just fabulous. 'One Man One Woman' gives Frida a chance to shine in full heartbreak mode. 'Move On' was always one of my favourites and has a fabulous melody, if you can ignore the slightly cheesy spoken intro by Bjorn. 'Hole In Your Sole' has tremendous energy and was performed live by Abba in 1977 as part of 'The Girl With Golden Hair' mini musical.
