An absolutely wonderful selection of 'Christmas Oldies'! Very mellow & festive, sure to bring back cosy memories of sitting by the log fire with loved ones.

Having purchased this item myself and with two 'Universal Players' capable of playing surround DVD-Audio (and SACD), I can confirm that unfortunately this item is just DTS Surround and does NOT contain DVD-Audio. I say this because a DVD-Audio option does not appear when the disc is loaded into a DVD-Audio player, nor is there any mention of DVD-Audio in the accompanying packaging with the disc. A shame, because the Surround Sound is good even with DTS (but is likely to have been even better with the higher bit and sampling rate of DVD-Audio). Therefore just 3 stars, because the sound won't be any better than the DVD (with DTS), which also includes the video of the concert.

The Byrds underwent many line-up changes but the line-up that recorded the classic Sweethearts of the rodeo album didn't last long even by Byrds' standards. Two of its key members, Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, quit and formed the Flying Burrito Brothers. This twofer contains their first two albums.
The first album, Gilded Palace of Sin, is regarded as a landmark album in the evolution of country-rock, almost as important as Sweethearts of the rodeo. Despite the label country rock, this album actually contains a few soulful ballads. On this album, the group comprised Gram Parsons, Chris Hillman, Sneeky Pete Kleinow and Chris Ethridge. Most of the songs are originals, though the album also includes brilliant covers of Dark end of the ... Read More:

Neil Young's post aneurism album is his `Harvest' album for the new century. The music is very well played the tunes are good and the lyrics very reflective. Mainly acoustic guitar, bass and drums with the odd keyboard and lap guitar, the albums kicks off with `the Painter' a song about following your dream. The Album ends with Neil crooning `When god made me' which sounds almost odd coming from Neil Young a man not noted for his religious beliefs. Highlights on the album are `It's a dream', `Prairie wind' and `This old guitar'. Fans of Neil's grunge side may not find much in this album but other fans will get lots. This album stands repeated listening. Some versions of this album come with a DVD this is the recommended version as you get a 96/24 stereo ... Read More:

This album is sublime from start to finish. Beautiful songs sung with a gorgeous voice. I can't recommend it highly enough (it deserves at least TEN stars). It's great value and the sound quality is perfect too. Linda Ronstadt has never really got the praise she deserves. My final two words say it all: BUY IT.

2005 was a whacky year even by Ryan Adams standards, as he released three albums, one of which was a double, in the space of around eight months. Luckily for all concerned, they got better as they went on, and he certainly saved the best for last.
29 is a kind of sequel to Love Is Hell, but rather than having the sprawling depression of that album's production it's more reminiscent of Heartbreaker's stripped sound, only amped up even more. Most of the songs were recorded by Adams alone with a guitar or piano and then overdubbed to a very minor extent. Instrumentation is spare and production is all but absent, all wise decisions for an album like this.
Whether you believe that Adams is as tortured as this or not - as far as I'm concerned, ... Read More:

This is an excellent introduction to the music of Steve Earle. Steve Earle is an amazing musician who almost defies classification – he has his roots in country music but his work shows strong rock influences, particularly influenced by the blue collar rock of Bruce Springsteen (in fact this album includes a couple of Springsteen covers).
The album takes tracks from Earle’s first four albums (Guitar Town, Exit 0, Copperhead Road & The Hard Way) together with five live tracks from his live album Shut up and die like an Aviator. Personally I prefer later Earle (Jerusalem and El Corazon are probably my two favourite albums) but this is fantastic introduction to early Steve Earle. In some ways it is more country than some of his later work (although it is ... Read More:

There must be at least 6 albums of this title yet the one I'm reviewing here is NOT any of them in spite of being misnamed as Gentleman Jim!Though its also called The Hayride Years
Its actually a live recording made with the cooperation of the Louisiana Hayride and is on a label in the U K called TK Magnum.Apparantly its also available in the States on a different label.
I discovered this one in of all places the local library and decided I had to send my penfriend Ginny Wright a copy as it starts off with an airshot promoting the Fabor label-and Ginny is heard on this along with other Fabor acts.
Trouble is it wasn't on the HMV computer so I had to order 2 copies from Ryans Country in Wales.
Ginny had incidentally never heard of this one but she had a hit duet with ... Read More:
