To anybody who already owns a compilation of Dolly's music for RCA, the track listing here has a familiar look to it with few exceptions. The exceptions are Please don't stop loving me, a sensational duet with Porter Wagoner not normally included on Dolly's solo compilations, To know him is to love him, from the first Trio album, and Why'd you come in here looking like that, from Dolly's period with Columbia. This UK edition includes a bonus track – a remix of Early morning breeze, a song that originally appeared on Dolly's Coat of many colors album (1971) and later on her Jolene album (1974).
The other tracks here include many Dolly classics, notably Jolene (her only UK top ten solo hit), Islands in the stream (a duet with ... Read More:

Nice picture of a bloke who has reached 3 score and 10. Every song brings so many memories back over 40 years. This man's voice is better than fine wine, rich, smooth like velvert. Beautiful - how can his voice possibly get better year on year? Just listen to each song, listen to the high notes, how can he hold them for so long. Wonderful 2 CD set. I look forward to seeing him on his UK Tour in October/November 2007. Just wonderful.

When is the world going to wake up to the genius of Rodney Crowell. The title alludes to his former life as a main stream country artist who began to look inwards, a track on The Outsider may be the key, and produced The Houston Kid. He laments on The Outsider that he will never write like Dylan, but his last four albums are, in my view, and I am a big Dylan fan, far superior to the last three lauded Dylan albums in every respect. This is an artist at the peak of his powers, using well honed techniques to produce works of emotional maturity backed by a group of wonderful musicians. I have played this album constantly and it just gets better and better, but if you listen to Wandering Boy from The Houston Kid, you will buy the last four albums ... Read More:

Found Kasey Chambers after hearing a song of hers sung at a music festival and couldn't wait to find out more about her. The album is very well put together and the tracks are great. Highly recommend you listen to this album and check out her/their other albums.

I've never really bothered with live albums in the past, always finding them a poor substitute of actually being there. This album changed my mind...

I discovered The Band through being a fan of Bob Dylan. The story goes that one night they were at a venue and were asked who they were, and they answered, "We're The Band," as they were still with Dylan at the time.
This is a nice foray into traditional American, semi-country music with a very homely feel and some really moving and profound lyrics. It's easy to listen to but also stimulating and thought provoking.
The song which introduced me to their music was The Night They Drove Old Dixie down, and when I started listening to this album, I realised there were a few other tracks I know and I suspect the same would apply to most people who are just starting to get into the music of The Band. Examples are Rag Mama Rag, When ... Read More:

Lucinda Williams' song Side Of The Road is one of the most extraordinary, beautiful and haunting songs I've ever heard, and some of the tracks on her last CD came very close to that quality in their ability to take you into the heart of somebody else's world with feeling. But for my money there's nothing to touch her best work on World Without Tears. To me the song writing all sounds a bit labored and tired, the delivery and voice uncertain as to what she's aiming for and the quasi-rap just plain wrong for both her voice and the material. I don't care what the other reviewers say, I would advise you give this a miss.

There are so many great tracks on this album that this could easily be a best of! The unplugged format is perfect for Neil Young and really shows his songs off in their best light and his voice goes just perfectly with acoustic guitar. This is where I began my love of Neil Young and I really believe it is a great starting point in his music and style before delving deeper into his other albums. A great album.
