Neil emerged from the dark brilliance of his brooding mid-seventies period to make his most accessible album since Harvest. If he is mostly known for folk, country, and rock, this album is firmly rooted in the folk/country categories, which he does as well as anyone.
This is a very fine album that demonstrates that Young can still be deeply reflective whilst maintaining a mellow - though never bland - approach to the music. As well as a great couple of openers, look out for Four Strong Winds, a country standard that perfectly fits the tone of the album.

I have owned this great CD for a few months now,I play other CDs in my car but this one always finds it's way back as my most popular,(you know, the one that's sort of always there in the CD player)I just never get fed up of listening to it.

"Heavier Things" is John Mayer's second studio album which was released on September 9th of 2003. The style on this album is soft-rock, as this comes from a period before he transitioned into blues. The album consists of 10 tracks, including the Grammy award winning "Daughters". The title of the album appears to be an answer for those who criticized Mayer's music as being too light.
The album opens with "Clarity", a song for which the meaning is not all that clear, but in general it seems to be about Mayer's self-perception. The second track is "Bigger than My Body" which is about the frustration of not being able to accomplish in reality what one wants to do in their mind, and in particular relates to John Mayer's desire to write more meaningful music. Shhh...I've never told anyone this before but...I really love this album. It's partly due to nostalgia; as a child of the 90s this was everywhere, school discos, friends' parties, barbecues, radio, blasting out of every other car, etc etc. When punk and the Sex Pistols burst onto my musical landscape, this, along with Britney Spears etc, was thrown out- or rather moved downstairs onto my parents' cd rack- but listening back to it now I grudgingly admit that I quite enjoy it in a cheesy kind of way (thankfully Britney has long since left my household). It's not country music (cue cries of "sell-out" and 1-star reviews from outraged country music fans)- just great commercial, radio-friendly pop (played mostly by real people on real instruments unlike much of the chart pop today). And that's ... Read More:

Covers albums aren't always appreciated by those who are familiar with the songs already, but I love them as long as they are done well, as this one is. Indeed, I've heard a few great ones by country singers in recent years, notably Twang on a wire (Kate Campbell), The chain (Deana Carter), Those were the days (Dolly Parton) and Timeless (Martina McBride). I expected Patty's album to be of a similar quality, especially when I saw the track listing and so it has proved.
Patty has selected songs from the fifties, sixties and seventies that particularly appealed to her. Four of them (Why baby why, He thinks I still care, Color of the blues, That`s all it took) were originally made famous by George Jones, the last-named originally being a duet performed by Gene Pitney and George Jones, ... In terms of consistency I would say this is the best Eagles album. All the songs are great and the whole album can be listened to without having to forward past the odd filler - which IMHO can't be said for any other Eagles album.
My second favourite album would probably be One Of These Nights. Sure Hotel California is a great album (Hotel is one my all time favourite songs) but Desperado and One Of These Nights for me these definately have the edge overall. I'm also in total agreement with one of the other reviewers - the Doolin Dalton reprise at the end is magic!

I bought this album when it first came out last year. The CD works well, with some great songs and a fresh, lively sound. I prefer it to her first album, and the DVD is a quality bonus, an interesting and inspiring video of the recording. The beat box demo prompted my son to buy one and incorporate it very successfully into his own stage act! The new album is due out shortly, but you'd be a fool not to get it at this price.

I actually am addicted to this album. First heard it twenty years ago and loved it then, but time passed and I forgot about it. Bought it again on CD two years ago and I'm still addicted. There's rarely a day I'm not listening to it on my Pod. It's the perfect antidote to the mass of rubbish that's churned out every day on the radio. This is music that reconnects you to great songwriting, musicianship and, in some ways, to yourself.

Kris has written many beautiful songs and can be considered as one of
the top writers in popular music especiallly in Country. However when
he interpretes his own songs I feel there's something lacking which
prevents him from being a "tophit scorer". His voice is sad and can't
reach the depth needed. Just listen to the same songs sung by others
who made it # 1 hits. Their interpretations are so different from his
and still so much better. Here are some examples:
Help Me Make It Through The Night: #1 by Sammi Smith
For The Good Times: #1 by Ray Price
Me and Bobby Mc Gee: # 12 by Roger Miller
Nobody Wins: # 4 by Brenda Lee
Sunday Morning Coming Down: #1 by Johnny Cash
Stranger: #1 by Johnny Duncan
etc. etc. etc.
His own versions ... Read More:

I'm 19, and I love Don Williams. I admit that I didn't hear of him until a few months ago, please don't hate me. I was sitting in ront of the computer in our living room, when I heard some really nice music coming from the kitchen where my mum was. I really like country music, especially Marty Robbins, Dolly Parton, and Lonestar, and I asked her who it was. She replied Don Williams, I went back to the computer, logged on the internet and bought this CD, and his love sogns cd, which really was a comfort when I was going through a bad patch after moving to university. 'Tears of the loney, keep falling all the time, Tears of the lonely never dry.' What a sad song! But it isn't on this cd, so if you want to hear it, you'll have to listen to the love songs cd.
But I reccomend this cd to new fans, who aren't quite ... Read More:
