This is the first Ryan album I bought and now I have all of his stuff it's still one of my favourites. He's unquestionably (to me) one of the most talented singers/songwriters there has ever been, and how other less deserving artists continuously receive more attention and sales remains beyond me, but the sensible people know who's best!
Gold is Ryan's most accessible album, in the sense that the songs are catchy (and most of them are radio-playable), but that doesn't mean they are any less intelligent than any of his other material. He sings thought-provoking, challenging lyrics which always repay careful listening.
Highlights for me include New York, New York, Answering Bell, Rescue Blues, Wild Flowers, Firecracker... ... Read More:

Fantastic CD. I have all of Kenny's Cd's and this is arguably the best yet. Every track is written from the heart and gives a real insight into the man behind the songs. Agreed, there is a Caribbean lilt to most of the tracks but that is quite obviously where is heart is. The Country/Caribbean mix is dreamy and perfectly matched, lets face it not a new thing for Kenny. If you are a new country fan and happy to see the music we love evolve you will love this album. I think it is worthy of an award and havent stopped playing it since it arrived. Over the last year I have been concentrating on Josh Turner, Billy Currington and Rodney Atkins, (check them all out if you havent already !), but they are not getting a look in for the moment. Get it you wont ... Read More:

I love this album. The highlights are Don Henley's take on 'everybody knows' which is biting and cold, Martin Gore's 'coming back to you', rich but still imbued with the pain of emptiness (miles better than Tricia Yarwood's version)and Tori Amos's 'famous blue raincoat', she is perfect for the song. The rest is still good but I am not entirely convinced by Billy Joel, I think he lacks the necessary depth and Peter Gabriel's effort is a bit sluggish. Have to disagree with the others, I think Bono's take on Hallelujah is interesting and I like it. However, the ultimate cover has to be John Cale's which is avaiable on the album 'I'm your fan - the songs of Leonard Cohen by....' If you like Leonard Cohen you should definitely invest in this one too.
I bought this album on the strength on the one song i heard on the radio " I Cant Make You Love Me" and was suprised to find so many other gems on this album. I really didnt know alot about Bonnie Raitt but i am glad that i do now, she has a really sweet voice and the songs are just beautifull they really seem to hit me where i am at in my life at this present moment.

I'm new to this genre and I have got into Miranda Lambert and Gretchen Wilson and although I don't buy his political persuasion, Toby Keith.
I bought West and wasn't impressed but Car Wheels is something else. Maybe because I'm new to this brand of music I'm suckered but I really think that this is such a stand out CD that it merits huge praise. I've heard that it was a perfectionist effort - hence the Pet Sounds analogy - and if so it works. Right in Time and Joy -two very different pices are addictive. Maybe this is a one-off in which case play it to death.

Alison Krauss has one of the beautiful voices in modern music. But this album shows Union Station to be so much more than her stunning vocals. The stand out feature of this album is the musicianship of all members of the band. The addition of jerry douglas dobro has added a new layer to their compositions. This album is simply a must.

I read a couple of reviews about this disc, and decided to give it a go. It duly arrived. I played it. Twice. The first time, I nodded off halfway through it. The second time, I switched it off about three quarters of the way through. It really never gets going. I wanted desperately to like it, but I can't. Wander through any large car boot sale and you'll come across a stand with a radio blasting out Irish folk music. And this is what this disc sounds like. Daniel O'Donnell with a better guitar backing. A great pity, it should have been so good.
