... to a terrific film. My only regret is that the soundtrack as released misses so much of Jerry Goldsmith's amazing score. Make no mistake, if this is all of the Mulan soundtrack we'll ever get, it'll do, but please Disney, release the full score in a set that will do the music and the late, great Mr Goldsmith the justice it truly deserves.

The film was pretty good, thoug didn't always work. Nicholson was the star, Basinger just screamed !!!

As for the music well overall it was much better than the film. 'The Future' starts us off, a terrific funk workout pinctuated with snippets from the film and tender strings which really resonate. 'Electric Chair' is an altogether ballsier affair with 'The Joker' confessing he is a bad man and always will be. Then we come to the weakest tracks on the album. 'Partyman' was featured in the film (not all here were). It's a funky jam, definetely toe tapping but not the most memorable, though the scene where 'The Joker' is wrecking the art gallery in which this track features is. This version of Peter and the Wolf is much better than that in the usually excellent naxos collection. The narration by Peter Ustinov is far superior to that of the irritating Edna Everage in the naxos version, who talks over the orchestra at each opportunity and refers to listeners as "possums". If you want Peter and the Wolf, get this cd instead. The other naxos children's cds that I've heard are very good except for Peter and the Wolf. I haven't heard Carnival of the Animals in the naxos collection, but I don't need to now as it is also on here so you get 2 for 1 as well. The Toy Symphony by Leopold Mozart is also on here so excellent quality and excellent value.
