I love this album. The highlights are Don Henley's take on 'everybody knows' which is biting and cold, Martin Gore's 'coming back to you', rich but still imbued with the pain of emptiness (miles better than Tricia Yarwood's version)and Tori Amos's 'famous blue raincoat', she is perfect for the song. The rest is still good but I am not entirely convinced by Billy Joel, I think he lacks the necessary depth and Peter Gabriel's effort is a bit sluggish. Have to disagree with the others, I think Bono's take on Hallelujah is interesting and I like it. However, the ultimate cover has to be John Cale's which is avaiable on the album 'I'm your fan - the songs of Leonard Cohen by....' If you like Leonard Cohen you should definitely invest in this ... I am a sucker for Soundtracks. I own atleast 20. This is, in all honesty, the best one. As many others have said, "Little Green Bag" and "Stuck in the Middle With You" are the highlights. However, the ones that are less admired ("Fool for Love" and "Magic Carpet Ride") are still amazing tracks. Nothing on this track will you ever fast-forward through because you are not in the mood. A word of advice however: If you aren't into old rock music, do not buy this! It is not modern music! If however, you are a fan of the film and enjoyed the music, buy this now!

This album is extremely enjoyable and contains some of the greatest music and best loved songs of the 20th Century. These are fine sensitive performances by well known artists. I can't add anything to the previous reviews except my endorsement - highly recommended, nuff said.
I'm Your Fan unlocks the broad sweep of Cohen's composing talent in a dazzling variety of voices and styles. First the gripes: Nick Cave's pointless Tower Of Song is a waste and the House Of Love's tepid Who By Fire provides no new perspectives. Also, REM's messy First We Take Manhattan is stupid. But gems abound: Ian McCulloch soars through Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye, adding his own melancholy twist to the song's sublime sadness; The Pixies storm through I Can't Forget at 200 km/h while That Petrol Emotion poignantly render Stories Of The Street. Pity they changed the lyrics though, as did James on their meandering but moving version of So Long Marianne. The emotional timbre of Stephen Duffy's voice gently cress ... Read More:

This is a very jaunty CD with a mix of some great Christmas party songs such as Jingle Bell Rock by Randy Travis and some more touching ones like O Holy Night by Tevin Campbell. They are performed by artists that you wouldn't necessarily expect to hear singing them and in some instances are all the better for that.
Standouts on this album for me include Christmas All Over Again by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers as well as Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree by Ronnie Spector and Darlene Love

The KLF are best remembered for "What Time Is Love?" & their media pranks. This album is just a pure joy to listen to, recorded in a minimalist way. The music is almost background music to Drummond & Cauty's soundscape of rivers, trains, sheep, planes, cars, mad preachers, and everyday sounds that you hear but never takes notice of, but on this album you do. If you can't sleep at night, put this album on in the dark and you begin to imagine you are on a journey around distant lands. The KLF also used samples from Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, Acker Bilk, Jesus Loves You (aka Boy George). Some stripped down versions of some KLF classics are here too, although retitled, along with what has to be the most impressive track the KLF ever recorded "Madrugada Eterna". If ... Read More:

Cole Porter (1891-1964) was among the closeted gay artists of his era--and the idea of collecting modern versions of his work for release as an AIDS fundraiser was truly inspired. But the hard truth is that few singers have the vocal skills that a Porter song demands, and the resulting RED HOT + BLUE is an extremely inconsistent mix of the truly sublime and the truly dire.
On the sublime side, the Neville Brothers offer a truly elegant reworking of the seldom performed but incredibly beautiful "In The Still of the Night," infusing the delicate melody with their own unique multicultural sound to tremendous effect. Fine Young Cannibals also do a remarkable version--and one that would have been sure to bring a wicked grin to Porter's face--of the often censored "Love for ... Read More:
